Dr. Sam Akmakjian is excited to introduce Dr. James Akmakjian as the new Associate General Dentist of Long Grove Dental!
Dr. James earned his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in General Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University. While there, he was selected to conduct research with Dr. Brian Walter in embryology and genetics.
Dr. James followed his passion for investigative research and earned his Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Illinois Institute of Technology. After just one year, Dr. James completed all of his requirements and graduated summa cum laude, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Inspired and mentored by his father, Dr. James decided to follow in Dr. Sam’s footsteps and dedicate his life to delivering quality dental health-care and education in his community. He scored in the 97th percentile on the Dental Admissions Test and qualified to be an Instructor for Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions. He taught Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics to hundreds of pre-medical and pre-dental health professionals trying to earn acceptance into medical and dental school.
Dr. James attended LECOM School of Dental Medicine with an interest in their emphasis on clinical exposure and has been treating patients for the last four years at LECOM’s dental clinic. Due to his academic performance, LECOM administration asked him to serve as a tutor for medical sciences to his fellow classmates. He was the first person in his class to take and pass the National Board Dental Examination, the United States National Dental Exam required by professionals for licensure. Like his father, Dr. James is excited about the advancements made in dental implants. While he was only a dental student, Dr. James went on and earned membership honors from the International Dental Implant Association (IDIA); in May of 2017, he successfully passed the examination required to earn Fellowship Honors from the IDIA. We hope you take the time to help welcome Dr. James as the newest addition to our Long Grove Dental Family.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to make this transition so smooth and enjoyable. It’s really a pleasure to be giving back to a community that has already given me so much.
As your “new neighbor,” here’s a little more about me – outside of the dental office. I’m a big reader and enjoy the nonfiction works by Richard Dawkins, Bill Bryson, Brian Greene, and others. I’m also a big sports fan and was excited to see our Cubbies bring a World Series back to Chicago. I like to play basketball, tennis, and racquetball. Whenever I have any free time, I try to spend as much of it as I can with my family.
I want to thank all of our patients for the trust and faith they’ve placed in Long Grove Dental for their dental care needs. Working with my father has literally been a dream come true. As a child, I would spend many hours watching my dad interact with all of his patients in the same way that he would interact with his family members at home.
