Description

Rainforest of the Americas is the newest state-of-the-art exhibit opened at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. This exhibit immerses visitors in the theme, “the rainforest is a home.” Tropical rainforests are full of life. From the treetops to the rivers, creatures are crawling, flying, slithering, hiding, sleeping, and living. Detailed sculptures, educational graphics, and architectural elements create an immersive experience for visitors, while specific animal highlights include amazing critters from piranhas and giant otters, to harpy eagles and cotton top tamarins.

The LAIR (Living Amphibians, Invertebrates, and Reptiles) encompasses several visually stunning areas that include habitats for various unique and endangered species. Over 60 species of amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles are represented in this assortment of living jewels. Each habitat is beautifully themed with hand-painted murals of damp and misty forests, rainforest canopies, red rock formations, mountain ranges and vistas, and dry arid deserts to exemplify the natural environments of the many diverse species.

Elephants of Asia habitat includes features dedicated to the health and welfare of the elephants such as bathing pools, sandy hills, varied topography, enrichment opportunities, and a state of the art barn that is capable of caring for elephants of all ages. Elephants of Asia focuses on the rich connection between elephants and the cultures of Thailand, India, China, and Cambodia. The exhibit familiarizes guests with the challenges Asian elephants face in the wild, including their shrinking natural habitat, and gives visitors the opportunity to directly contribute to conservation programs that support elephants in their native countries.

A very nice zoo. We arrived on Saturday just in time for opening to avoid long lines & waiting, And we definitely bought tickets pretty quickly and got in without standing in line. A ticket for an adult costs $22 and for a baby under the age of 2 the entrance is free. wide variety of animal types. In my opinion, the zoo is not arranged in a sufficiently organized manner and it is difficult to find your way around and reach all the animals, it felt a bit like a maze and there were no maps anywhere. We arrived on a very hot day and many of the animals were not in places where they could be seen inside the cage. The food/drinks/souvenirs are very very expensive!! Besides, our baby really enjoyed it and it was nice to watch the animals, the zoo is clean and inviting, nicely decorated and you can see that thought was put into it.
Much larger than I expected! We went in the morning about 10AM, animals were active and very nice to see! It's cool that one of the eateries is next to the Giraffes so you get to watch them interact while you rest for a bit. A third of the price from San Diego Zoo as well, and I think a much better experience!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$21–30
This zoo is fun to go to, but I do not suggest waiting later in the day to go since they close at 5 pm. Wish they stayed open until at least 7 pm or so. It's a hot summer, so don't expect a lot of animals to be out much that aren't surrounded by lots of foliage. The souvenir pics are cute, and the employees handling them are very nice. There is an abundance of walking, but that's parts of the fun - at least for me, honestly. They do have a tram that goes around and stops at several spots. You can get off and on at any of the designated spots if you pay for a day pass - $5 for adults, $2.50 for each kid. However, no small hot dog or slice of pizza should cost $12, but it is L.A. so expect increased pricing.
Love the zoo. It’s small but it’s well kept and the animals look happy. Love having a membership and going to all the events! Tip: if you have a membership, try to go on an early open day to watch them feed the animals. It’s so much fun and usually the best time to go as all the animals are out and hungry!
Overall, I thought it was a pretty good zoo. I've been to a lot of zoos... I was pleased. Lots of interesting animals & exhibits. I'll admit, I did get lost. That was probably the worst part of it. The layout was a little confusing. But we managed. And we saw pretty much everything. There were definitely plenty of empty exhibits & enclosures, but the other animals that were out, made up for the lack of exhibits.
Very good experience. It was a great time looking at all the animals. Make sure to pack water and snacks. It's a big park. You can enjoy the play zone for the kids. It under cover so the little ones don't get burn or overheat. The little train can take you all around the park. If you buy a all day pass you can hop on and off as you wish to see the all animals from around the world. Tha k you L.A zoo for making the fun game to find the wonderful travel icon from around the world. We played it and it was so much fun. We just wanted to find the next clue.
Have fun, and my kids loved it. Got to see almost everything in about 4 hours. We missed the petting zoo area because they closed down at 2:30. Other than that, we had a blast.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$21–30
Be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat in Summer, and stay hydrated! Staff were a plenty and always there to help and advise. We arrived early on a weekday, which we were told made the experience quite intimate and less congested. But too early for some of the shops/kiosks to be open. Quite an experience : definitely a visit for a family
I always love to visit the LA Zoo. I recently visited and most exhibits were closed. I'm not sure if it was because it was the middle of the week or if that's just the way it is these days, especially after the pandemic. Anyway, I had a great time and I even renewed my membership for another year. I love the animals.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$21–30
I spent the whole day and it was fun but everything was really expensive so I recommend you bring your own food and drinks. Also there were a lot of animals that weren't in their enclosure or their enclosure was being worked on which is fine if they do that, I just think if they do that they should let you know through the website so that way if you plan to see a certain animal you can know before you go if you'd even be able to.
