My daughter had gone for band camp. The camp counselor my daughter had was incredibly immature and inappropriate. My daughter ended up leaving camp early because the counselor made the environment so uncomfortable. The counselor changed her pronouns daily and and daily wanted to have a conversation with the 12 year olds in her cabin about it. Multiple times the campers told the gender fluid counselor that they were not interested in talking about how they identified. It is wildly in appropriate to continue to push a subject when a child says NO. They talk about being an inclusive camp but are far from. Being inclusive means respecting EVERYONE and MAKING EVERYONE feel SAFE and welcome. My daughter explained that she had the best time during the band activities away from the counselor. The band instructors she had were amazing.
1 star is too high for this camp! My daughter went for band camp last week for the first time. She was looking forward to going for months. By the second day I was getting a call from my distraught daughter asking me to come get her. Her camp counselor had made her feel so incredibly uncomfortable and unsafe she didnt feel she could stay. Her camp counselor changed her pronouns daily and carried on trying to have conversations with 12 year old children about her gender identity every morning, even when the kids in the cabin told her, NO, they didnt want to talk about it. How inappropriate to have a gender fluid camp counselor in a GIRLS cabin who would identify as a woman one day, and man the next! This camp claims in their vision statement they are determined to make ALL their campers feel welcomed and comfortable. However, my daughter felt so incredibly uncomfortable she felt she had no other choice but to leave! Nothing was done or offered by the camp to help her feel safe and comfortable. Quite the opposite! Their "all-inclusive" camp mentality apparantly does not include my daughter. I will NEVER be sending my child back to this camp. To say I am disappointed in how all this was handled is a BIG understatement!
Wonderful. Normally a Lutheran children's summer camp. During Covid-19 there isn't any summer camp but a few staffers are on-site to assist if needed. Families and individuals can RV & tent camp. No sewer hook-ups. No dump site. Water & electric provided. Public bathrooms & a shower stall are clean & spacious. Swimming, canoeing, & kayaking in West Lake Samish. Lush hiking trails throughout the property. $35/night. I suggest calling ahead for directions and availability. Note: It takes half-an-hour driving to the dump site at nearby Larabee State Park. Bellingham groceries, laundry, & general supplies are 20 min. away.
My daughter has gone to Lutherwood for multiple weeks each summer this year was her 8th summer and will tell anyone that it is her favorite place on earth. The property itself is amazing, but the activities ropes courses, tubing, canoeing, swimming, and so much more, games 9 square in the air especially, Bible encounter and worship times, campfire each night, and “cool” counselors make this camp outstanding. We’ve also been to family camp and have camped in the campground, all of which were great experiences too.
I did not stay. I dropped my son off here for his Scout camp out. I drove around the park and camp areas. Looks like a great family place to camp. Very peaceful clean camping areas. Lots of field area for children to play. Lots of parking. Looks like a nice lake front area. It does have a small boat launch. I am only giving 3 stars based solely on the fact that I did not stay. I am sure it is a great camp and park. I definitely think it would be.
I was there last week and it was a jolly ol' time and I don't see any of the "problems" people have stated previously.
I was a counselor here year summers of 2014 & 2015 The camp does such a great job at everything they do. They make sure kids have a memorable experience & a deep encounter with God. “Behind the Scenes” as a counselor, everything was always in tip top shape. Everyone is diligent at making sure the camp stays clean and in order each week. This camp is beautiful, the staff is faith filled and kind, if you’re looking to send your child here- or come here yourself with your church- come!
My kids have attended camp here for years and they have always loved their time here. The closing ceremonies are great for parents and the stories the kids share on the drive home are the best. And now the camp ranks even higher on my list as we've just recently had our wedding there. It's rare to find a place that is both beautiful and fun for everyone. Bride and Groom AND guests. There's no better back drop than Campfire for wedding photos. The lake and cross behind you is stunning. I have 16 nieces and nephews, everything we plan for is family oriented. The games, swimming, exploring the trails all proved to be great fun for even the youngest in our group. In the middle of Covid, things were changing so much and so often that I always had a ton of questions and the staff was always available to answer them, with great patience and with lots of laughs. We were originally booked for a different venue but the camp came through to save the day literally a week before our wedding. And it ended up being the most perfect and beautiful experience/wedding I could have ever dreamed of. God's plan is definitely bigger and I am so thankful that we trusted Him. With a little help from the greatest wedding venue in WA that also doubles as the greatest church camp/therapy service/friend finding/ soul filling/faith building/out door ministry you will ever find for your littles.
Lutherwood is a fantastic place to go to enjoy a rope course! The staff are really kind and love to help whenever possible and they make sure everyone is comfortable before heading up on the course. This is a great place for a family adventure or a boy scout outing.
Lutherwood is a carnival of nature. A sanctuary, both sacred in and of itself as a woodland realm with deep lakes, lush forests, and vapid field’s facing some of this coasts most inspiring mountains beset by calm seas. This location, as if not recognized enough as a sacred site, also serves as a place of worship and recreational growth for those of the Lutheran faith. One of the local on-premise directors, Corey is a paradigm of kindness and creative guidance for this gem of the evergreens. If you ever have the chance to experience Lutherwood, I would highly recommend it.
