MacArthur High School is a public high school in Irving, Texas. Opened in 1963, it is named for the American General of the Army Douglas MacArthur. One of his teachers at MacArthur thought the clock resembled a bomb and subsequently reported him. The police were brought in and thought that the device might be a bomb hoax. Many Twitter users, online commentators and journalists, and Mohamed's family argued that he was profiled based on his name, religion, and/or skin color. President Barack Obama wrote a tweet encouraging Mohamed, saying, "We should inspire more kids like you to like science."Academic ratingsIn 2009, the school was rated "Academically Acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.
