The Mad City Pond Hockey Championship is a unique opportunity for hockey lovers of all ages to experience the roots of hockey by playing “in the elements”. There is something magical about playing outside, for the adult players think of all those great memories of shinny on the neighborhood rinks. For the youth, we wanted to create this event to share this joy and hopefully get them to appreciate hockey’s past.
Madison is the Capital of Wisconsin, home of the Badgers and with all of its attractions lends itself to be not only a great spot for families to come play hockey but also a spot to experience the wonderful culture of our museums, restaurants, shopping, and for the adult players are historic nightlife scene.
The tournament itself will be held at the Vilas Lagoon, a neighbor of Lake Wingra. The lagoon is a perfect venue for this event with a fast freezing pond that stretches 240’ x 600’ long. With a potential of 12+ rinks this area has all the makings of a massive pond hockey experience.
Along with the opportunity to play hockey with your friends we have an interesting twist - we want this to be about the community and obviously giving back to our roots. With this said we have partnered with UW Carbone Cancer Center Pancreas Cancer Task Force and are setting up a Winter Carnival. The carnival will be held inside one of our giant tents and will include a bouncy house, carnival games, shooting lanes for hardest shot and accuracy, cotton candy and popcorn machines, raffles etc. all raising money for UW Carbone Cancer Center Pancreas Cancer Task Force.
We have multiple age and skill divisions so Everyone can play and have a chance at glory. Whether you have 30 years of experience or you just want to come out and try to play on the pond for the first time we will accommodate your skill level.
Everyone deserves the chance to play a little puck!
