Madison Healthy Communities seeks to improve the overall health of Madison Parish by working on a community level.
Madison Healthy Communities is part of a broader project funded via a grant from the CDC.
LSU AgCenter, Southern AgCenter, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals are all parties involved in the execution of the broader Healthy Communities project and play a role in Madison Healthy Communities specifically as well.
The goal of this project is to improve physical activity and nutrition, reduce obesity, and prevent and control of diabetes, heart disease and stroke among residents in targeted parishes, such as Madison parish.
The program intends to meet these goals via the collaborative work of a targeted parish's Community Coalition.
The Madison Community Coalition is charged with the responsibility of creating and implementing strategies based off of specific
community need expressed at community forums, with the overall objective being to meet the goals listed above for Madison.
Our Mission: To improve the overall health of Madison Parish by creating a healthy environment where residents are empowered to make healthy choices.
