This has a beautiful boardwalk going through the marsh, right next to Lake Erie. So many beautiful birds to look at, especially during migration season. Really spectacular! The visitor center is very nice. Right next door is also the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.
Beautiful and peaceful little place. I didn't even walk the whole thing but from what I did it was incredible. Lots of wildlife turtles, egrets, swans and cranes. Carp in the waterlily retention pond. Tons of birds and varieties. Saw quite a few blue winged warblers, bald eagles and cardinals. Nice areas to fish, picnic, and just find a tree to hang under. The marsh has such a peaceful symphony to enjoy! Great way to spend a day or afternoon. And there are plenty more nature stops to enjoy in the area as to enjoy!
Stop here to walk the bird trail & see the beach. The area to the beach was overgrown quite a bit, but there were some open walkways to get to the beach without walking through weed. The beach itself is not meant to be swam at. There was quite a bit of garbage & dead fish all over the beach. We ended up just walking the beach, collecting shells, and just enjoyed the peacefulness of the area. There was an eagle nest in the trees right in front of the parking area. Ran out of time to walk the trail but plan to come back & do that next time.
It is very easy to find. The Marsh has a spectacular diversity of birds and birdwatchers in early May. On May 11, I've counted cars' license plates from 27 different states including Alaska and California in their parking lots + one from Ontario, Canada. On the boardwalk, besides the English language, I heard Spanish, German, and Pennsylvania Dutch Amish people speak that. On that day, I made 13,953 steps 5.47 miles. In one day, I've found 68 different bird species, including 17 different warblers. This place is a must-see for any serious birder. It was very crowded in the morning on the boardwalks, but after 3 PM, there was much more free space there. I loved everything about Magee Marsh and will visit it again.
Brilliant birding, even though it was very crowded? Don't forget your camera as the wildlife is very obliging. Only a slight complaint, nowhere to get any refreshments, we had to travel to the Ottawa reserve for food and drink, although this area has many facilities and many birding opportunities.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
The boardwalks are the best location in the Great lakes region for spring warbler viewing. The boardwalks are in good condition but can be crowded during peak times. The parking lot near the boardwalk can be slow and crowdedVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Great new visitor's center! I especially loved the warbler pairs showing male and female. The boardwalks are accessible although they are not level and even in all places. It may be difficult for cane or walker users but wheelchairs and scooters have no problem.
Beautiful place to walk, take your pets, relax and also a little fishing! Make sure you bring bug spray!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Was an amazing place in the 90s.. public beach and waterfowl festivals, but that is no more. State had a change of heart, now the property belongs to the animals nothing wrong with this and is where a lot of the controlled waterfowl hunts take place. Personally, chasing fowl is primarily why I come to Magee, but honestly, they have amazing trails, marsh life galore, and a nature center. My children love to see the snakes, turtles, and frogs. They also enjoy the nature center where they can explore and learn about animals/habitat of northwest Ohio.
Great place to go and enjoy a nature walk. Been coming here for a few years now and always enjoy the day.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
