Absolutely loved this place! All the staff were extremely friendly. The blacksmith and a little girl named Daisy were probably my favorites of the entire tour. The farm still operates as if it were 1865. It's a very cool experience if you're into the old time/old west history stuff. Very educational as well. Absolutely loved it and even learned a couple of new games while we were there! If you haven't been, I strongly suggest going and definitely check out their museum. I think I'm going to take my youngest back to see it next summer!
We were in town for the Oz Marathon. Unsure what to do in Olathe, KS, we found this gem. The history of how the area was settled during western expansion is very interesting and perfectly displayed at the Mahaffie’s. From seeing a blacksmith, sheep sheering, and thread spinning. This was a great experience and helped connect me to the area. Definitely worth the visit!
We had a wonderful visit! We spent about 2.5 hours here with three little boys, but I could have stayed longer. The workers/volunteers were SO friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the farm and of the time period. There were so many hands-on things to do for the kids, and they loved the animals roaming the farm. I am eager to return again!
I have not been to Mahaffie, since I was 10 years old, I went this weekend and it was very different, but overall it was great. I had fun even being 20 years old it was fun. I would recommend that you take your kids out to see this. There are horses, animals to see, I had a blast.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10

Loved how educational today was with the black smith to the little girl in the house teaching us about the games they played back then. Enjoyed the stagecoach ride also just wished it was a little longer over it was great for today just minutes from our house.
Very beautiful homestead with nice museum area with artifacts found in the property. The museum has great information and personal details from life traveling along the Oregon and Sante Fe Trails including excerpts from diaries. Historically accurate chickens and sheep and pigs near the house. Lots of hands-on activities for children to do as well.
Since its winter, not all the buildings were open, but we had tons of fun anyway! When we come back in summer, we'll probably have to put a whole day aside. We are a family of history buffs, so we loved it!! Plus the animals were friendly and many came over to the fences, so we got to say hello and pet them.
Fantastic wild west days. Took daughter and bunch of grandkids. They had a blast learning about the 1800s. They rode a real stagecoach, branded some leather, panned for gold, listened to magic shows, pet oxen, lassoed bulls, got to see soldier and cowboy camps and a gun slinging battle. Highly recommended.
Great activities for the family and kids, old fashioned yard games, blacksmith, cooking over open fire, panning for gold, washing clothes by hand, sewing a soldiers kit, horse in the barn, stagecoach rides, watering the garden, playing checkers, watching and learning how to fire a cannon from folks in period clothes. Very interesting and fun for whole family. Learned about new plants we had not heard of and what parts of the plants to eat. Thanks to staff for all their hard work teaching kids about history!
