We help high school students navigate the myriad of college and university options and the complexities of completing and submitting applications.
I am Andrea Main, owner of Main Education Consulting. I see the step from high school to college or university as an exciting time full of choices and possibilities. Those possibilities include thousands of colleges and hundreds of majors. I provide one-on-one assistance to help students find their “best fit” schools and then guidance in choosing their high school classes and activities, completing their applications and choosing the school to attend. I work with students from 9th grade through 12th grade.
As a College and Career Specialist and over a decade of experience in the school system, I have helped hundreds of students find and apply to colleges. I assist students in identifying scholarship opportunities and preparing for financial assistance. I work with SAT/ACT professionals and have developed and presented SAT/ACT preparation workshops.
Most importantly, I recognize that each student has very personal hopes and dreams. By listening to students and helping them identify their own combination of strengths and experiences, each student is empowered to complete applications and essays in a wholly personal way. I have a knack for helping students find the learning outcomes in their experiences, both positive and negative, and I teach them how these experiences make them stronger applicants – for colleges, jobs and in life.
I bring a unique skill set to Main Education Consulting. With a BA in Psychology-Learning, I fully recognize how students thrive in the right learning environment. By developing a rapport with each student and focusing on his or her learning strengths, education and career goals, I craft a high school plan with the student which includes classes and extra-curricular activities that align with the student’s own goals and interests.
Twelve years as a professional science educator and writer gives me the skills to mentor students as they craft their own personal essays. I teach students how to find their own personal story and to write it in their own voice. Prior to submitting the essay, I proof-read the essay to ensure it is grammatically correct.
Having lived, gone to school and worked in both the United States and Canada I understand college/university expectations and high school credits from both countries. I continue to visit colleges, universities and art schools in both countries. Students who are interested in studying in either the United States or Canada can be assured of my proficiency.
I am an Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and I uphold all of IECA's Principals of Good Practice.
Currently enrolled in the University of California-Irvine’s “Independent Educational Consultant” certification program, I continue to develop my education, exposure and professionalism in this industry.
