I have lived here for several years and I really regret it. It’s worst management ever. Manager Violet very unprofessional and not helpful at all. I would never buy any condo in this building. Assessments are really high and expensive, and it goes up pretty much every year, with no improvement or upgrades in the building. Management will always try to make extra money by charging residents, sometimes for no reason. I am glad and happy that I sold my condo here and moved out from this awful place. Violet remember karma will get you for everything you did to us. Just remember that.
Terrible management! Avoid this place. Never buy any condo from Malibu East Condominium. Very high assessment, but everything is outdated , maintenance is minimal. I had very negative experience with the management of the condo complex. The manager, Violette Deschamps, is rude and always keeps charging the unit owners unnecessary fees. I was shocked to find that the management was discriminatory towards certain members of the community. This is unacceptable and I cannot recommend this complex to anyone. The management's behavior was completely unprofessional and it is clear that they do not have the best interests of their residents in mind. I am extremely disappointed with the management of this condo complex. The maintenance requests go unresolved for weeks, the facilities are constantly dirty and poorly maintained, and the staff is unresponsive and unhelpful. I would not recommend this complex to anyone.
One of the nicest condo buildings in Edgewater Chicago neighborhood.
The views are simply amazing from the patios at Malibu. I love this building.
Rico moved into the Malibu Condominium as a renter in 2011. He was one of a few black residents in an otherwise all-white building. After three months, the Malibu’s property manager, Brian Kelly, privately told Rico not to invite Black guests to his apartment anymore. Rico refused to comply, and later found out from several Malibu employees that all of Rico’s guests were being interviewed before entering the building and their names recorded by Malibu doormen. A week later, several detectives arrived at Rico’s apartment in the middle of the night on a faulty tip that Rico had drugs. He was also investigated for having illegal Beanie Babies. The inspectors eventually closed the case and led Rico to believe that Brian Kelly, the property manager had made the false accusations against him. Throughout this, Kelly kept telling Rico’s landlord, Vipin Jain, to evict Rico. According to Jain, “the Malibu management tried to disparage [Alberto] in an effort to get me to kick him out of the apartment. I never took any action because I knew Alberto would not do anything wrong. All those accusations turned out to be false.” Rico filed a complaint with the Illinois Commission of Human Relations. He also filed a lawsuit, representing himself against several of Malibu’s attorneys. The building ultimately decided to settle and agreed to verbally apologize. While things seemed to have improved for Rico, the Malibu’s discriminatory policies have since resurfaced. In 2019 Rico started Rico’s One of a Kind Wine Club. In March 2020, Rico was told that he had violated the condo rules by running a business out of The Malibu and that residents were complaining. Additionally, Rico was charged $160/month to be able to invite outside guests to the party room, despite the fact that the Malibu Rules & Regulations state that the party room rental fee is $100. His guests were al ways a diverse group, and at an average wine tasting even, approximately 80% of them were Black. Meanwhile, a white woman who is not a resident of the Malibu runs her yoga class with an all-white clientele in the party room, and charges $9 for each class. She reported that she was able to work around the Malibu’s rules because she has “a good relationship with the board.” Rico was left to conclude that this disparate treatment was due to his race and the race of his guests. In 2018 the Malibu implemented a “safe work rule” protecting any “employee or agent of the Association” from harassment by Malibu residents. No such protections for Malibu residents against harassment by employees or agents were included. Within the 53 pages of their Rules and Regulations handbook, no anti-discrimination policy appears.
Modern, convenient, well managed high rise with spectacular views, in up&coming neighborhood. Close to public transportation, WholeFoods, CVS, Walgreens, LA Gym and public beaches. The Malibu has a polite, friendly professional staff and a valet parking garage.
I own a unit in this building and my brother, who lives there now, has been suffering unnecessary harrasment at the hands of the resident building manager. This women has repeatedly singled him out, probably because she's had a miserable upbringing, on numerous occasions. If you can imagine the power TSA employees perceive that they have and how they act accordingly, this situation is directly analogous. If you are a kind, understanding, and community oriented person DO NOT buy/rent in this building. If you don't want he cops to be called on you without any prior warming or reason multiple visits, never a citation please reconsider living here. If you are young and don't want to have the elder tenets unleash their attack dog of a building manager, do NOT live here. I own my unit unfortunately but the situation has deteriorated to the point that a civil lawyer will present harrasment papers on Monday morning. I will post the subpoena here so anyone thinking of moving here or wasting there money on a unit here will, God willing, be dissuaded.
Parking people is so lazy and rude, after parking there my car looks like junk. It's so dirty
