Description

The Manheim Township Police Department serves the communities of Manheim Township, East Petersburg Borough and Lancaster Township by protecting citizens and property, preventing crime, enforcing laws, and maintaining order. Beginning as a small three-officer department in the 1950's, the MTPD is today a highly specialized and effective modern police force with a full array of crime fighting and policing capabilities and a proactive approach to law enforcement and community policing.

Responsibilities

The MT Police Department patrols the 23.88 square miles of Manheim Township, 2.0 square miles of East Petersburg Borough and 6.0 square miles of Lancaster Township. The police force consists of 65 sworn police officers and 21 full-time and part-time civilian employees organized into three functioning divisions:

Patrol Division - The patrol division is composed of an Administrative Sergeant, a Patrol Section with four platoons of uniformed officers, each supervised by a Sergeant and a Patrol Support Section. The Patrol Support Section consists of a Selective Enforcement Unit, a School Crossing Guard Unit, a Park Guard Unit, Fire Police Units and Front Desk Personnel.
Special Operations Division - The special operations division is composed of an Investigative Section and a Special Services Section (DARE Program, Evidence Property & Court Liaison, Crime Prevention Coordination, Youth Liaison, Homeland Security and Intelligence)
Administrative Support Division - The administrative support staff is composed of the Planning, Office and Equipment, Physical Plant and Records Sections.

Mission

The mission of the Manheim Township Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in Manheim Township, East Petersburg Borough, and Lancaster Township, through partnerships with residents, schools, faith, community based groups, and other entities of government in a manner that promotes the preservation of life and property, assures the orderly movement of traffic, maintains peaceful public order, reduces fear, provides for a safe and secure environment, and ensures the enforcement of law with respect for human dignity.

Child Abuse Services
The Lancaster County Children and Youth Social Service Agency is a public child welfare agency mandated to provide protection services to Lancaster County's children and their families. The Agency investigates all reports of child abuse and neglect and provides intervention services to address safety threats and risk factors and stabilize the family. The Agency's mission is to address the safety, permanency and well-being of children and youth at risk of abuse and neglect. Referrals can be made to the agency by calling 717-299-7925 during business hours. To report abuse, call 1-800-932-0313 toll free or visit https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis anytime. If a crisis occurs after business hours, a standby case worker is available by calling the Medical Bureau at 717-396-8085. If it is a situation involving a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

Crash Reports
The Manheim Township Police Department has partnered with CARFAX to bring all investigated crash reports available for access 24 hours a day / 7 days a week via crashdocs.org. The cost is $15 per report which are usually available 5 – 7 days after the crash was reported and investigated.

Crime Victim Compensation
Victim / Witness Services is a special program of the Office of the District Attorney. Victim / Witness Services provides information, support, and advocacy to victims of crime and to witnesses for trials.

Crisis Intervention
Crisis Intervention is a 24 hour emergency mental health service provided for persons experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal or homicidal thoughts. Crisis Intervention staff can assist in assessing what a person needs to alleviate the immediate crisis and then link them to appropriate services. This can be completed by phone, an outreach to the person’s location or the person coming to the office. Domestic Violence Services
If you are a victim of Domestic Violence you can find assistance for legal advocacy, counseling, support groups, children's services, shelter and other assistance by calling 717-299-9677 during business hours or the 24-hour hotline at 717-299-1249. Elder or Care-Dependent Abuse Services
Elder abuse is the abuse or financial exploitation of adults 60 years of age and older. Care-Dependent Person Abuse is the abuse or neglect of an adult (18-59 years of age) who, due to physical or cognitive disability or impairment, requires assistance to meet his/her needs for food, shelter, clothing, personal care or health care. If you suspect an elderly or care-dependent person is being abused or exploited call the Lancaster County Office of Aging at 717-299-7979, the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office at 717-299-8100.

Megan's Law
Pennsylvania's Megan's Law, 42 Pa.C.S § 9799.32(1) and § 9799.67(1) , requires the State Police to create and maintain a registry of persons who reside, or is transient, work/carry on a vocation, or attend school in the Commonwealth and who have either been convicted of, entered a plea of guilty to, or have been adjudicated delinquent of Certain Sexual Offenses in Pennsylvania or another jurisdiction. Sexual Assault Services
The YWCA Lancaster’s Sexual Assault Counseling Center provides support and advocacy for victim survivors of sexual abuse, for significant others, and for other family members. The goal is to facilitate healing and empowerment for those who have experienced sexual trauma. The Counseling Center utilizes special programs designed for children, adolescents, and adults to meet their diverse needs.
