The Mariam Clinic services extend beyond medical services, fostering relationships among diverse groups sharing our vision for a healthier society. In addition to free health care, Mariam Clinic has an ACCESS Center. The ACCESS Center seeks to reduce barriers to healthcare and to address the unmet needs for social health programs.
Existing free clinics in Raleigh and Durham are operating at full capacity. Mariam Clinic, a 501C3 non-profit organization, opened in October 2007. We have provided totally free medical services to hundreds of uninsured adults with a special emphasis on translation services and cultural competence with our providers.
We serve adults with financial resources less than 200% of the poverty level and who are ineligible for federal or private health insurance. The number of individuals meeting this criteria is staggering.
Unfortunately, Mariam Clinic is forced to turn away many patients in need due to the lack of resources and limited service availability. Anyone can help by donating or simply volunteering their time and help to the Mariam Clinic. Doctors, who are willing to offer their time and services, would be especially helpful to the growing population of the RTP area. Full liability coverage is provided once the doctors have been registered. Through everyone's help, the Mariam Clinic will be able to provide support to many more in need!
Our goal is to build a healthier society through:
• Service - providing free medical care to the uninsured.
• Responsibility - helping patients to help themselves through preventive health care programs.
• Interaction - bringing together diverse volunteers who find common ground through achieving these goals.
Services & Eligibility
Mariam Clinic provides access to high quality care through the free health clinic and ACCESS Center. It is our belief that every human being has a right to live in dignity, and that access to affordable health care is an essential human need. The clinic also places great emphasis on patient education and life-style modification.
The clinic sees about 12 patients per physician on a clinic day with up to 30 volunteers providing support each month. We currently serve over 1000 patients.
We have treated over one thousand patients without regard to race, religion or ethnicity. We pride ourselves in being able to understand multiple cultures. Most of our staff members are fluent in at least two languages, and come from various religious and ethnic backgrounds. Because of this, we are able to connect with our patients in a way that makes them feel at ease.
