In June 2007, the Marietta Police Athletic League (PAL) was founded by Lieutenant Michael Goins.
The Marietta Police Athletic League (PAL) is a member of the National PAL program designed to utilize sports as a basis for positive interaction between police officers and area youth, while providing youth a foundation for good decision making. Marietta PAL is a non-profit organization founded by Lt. Michael Goins of the Marietta Police Department in 2007. Marietta PAL has served more than 6,000 youth since 2007 through its sports programs and community events. PAL currently sponsors a daily after school program and summer camp at the Lawrence Street Recreation Center in Marietta. PAL also sponsors a boys’ and girls’ basketball teams and a cheerleading program at the Marietta Sixth Grade Academy; as well as training programs in boxing, martial arts and track and field.
To prevent juvenile crime and violence by providing civic, athletic, recreational and educational opportunities which create trust and build understanding between officers and youth.
