Description

Established in 1923 and designed by course architect, Russell Breeden. Marion Lake Club is the only golf course located on Lake James in McDowell County, North Carolina. Marion Lake Club is less than 5 miles from Interstate I-40, and is noted for its spectacular views of Linville Gorge and Shortoff Mountain. Set in rolling terrain with Bermuda fairways and excellent bent grass greens, Marion Lake Club is a challenge for all skill levels of golfer. The golf course is a par 70, which measures 6,300 yards from the back tees.
Marion Lake Club is a semi private golf course with excellent membership packages. The golf course is open year round.

We loved the course and even though there was a mix up with our tee time through a third-party booking, the golf pro worked with us as if we were members. We hit some balls first and the we started off on the back nine. Beautiful! So much history, loved the lake views. Plays a bit long for women and challenging but so worth it. We would play here again in a heartbeat!
Great layout, very interesting and challenging holes. Conditions were very good. Greens were a good speed not fast and consistent. Very hilly. Back 9 has many views of Lake James
Rough patches in places. The greens for the most part where good. Outside of players not fixing their divots. Good value for $30 a.m. tee time. Not much of a driving range but did have a very small chip area to a flag in the grass. A couple of holes with a nice view. Layout was bananas. Friendly pro shop staff. Gave us a complimentary yardage book which was useful. 13.5 handicapper here
My go-to course...staff is friendly and views are nice. Course is fun but challenging.
Really fun course with unique shots in most holes. Lots of elevation changes and find second shots. Front is like a different course from the back based on when built. Back 9 views are great but 3-hole stretch is downright dangerous with a shared fairway and tee boxes on top of greens. Lots of fun but watch yourself.
Marion Lake is a fun but challenging course that can play as hard as you make it. I enjoy playing both sides of this golf course with one of the best views you'll ever see on hole 18. Would definitely recommend playing with a group of buddies or just going to use the range and chipping facility. If you don't stop and get a burger from the clubhouse grill, you've definitely wasted a trip!!
I love to golf but I’m not a fan of this course. Some of the fairways crisscross each other so balls are flying everywhere. On two occasions, my ball was picked up before I got to it by someone playing in another fairway. There were multiple groups of 6 playing and holding up everything and everyone. This should not be happening. And of course, there is no marshall to remedy the situation. I will not go out of my way to play here again.
Really like the course some amazing views on the back nine. And I don't think I have ever met any nicer people on the course or in the pro shop.
Great people and a great place to play golf!!! The course is getting into really good shape you probably need to make a tee time !!!!
