Markey Township is a civil township of Roscommon County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,424 at the 2000 census.GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.2sqmi, of which 28.9sqmi is land and 7.3sqmi (20.07%) is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 2,424 people, 1,100 households, and 764 families residing in the township. The population density was 83.8 per square mile (32.4/km²). There were 2,396 housing units at an average density of 82.9 per square mile (32.0/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.06% White, 0.37% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.91% of the population.There were 1,100 households out of which 19.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.60.
