The Mart Volunteer Fire Department takes pride in helping the Community of Mart and the surrounding area.
The services of a volunteer firefighter, are for the most part , performed without monetary compensation, and the desire to serve is motivated by the volunteer's devotion to civic duty The long and noble tradition of rendering a service in the time of need has established a heritage of which the nation is justly proud. Charles Mckay, Editor of the Times of London , after visiting America in 1857 wrote in part:
Whatever the Americans are proud of - whatever they consider to be peculiarly good, useful, brilliant, or characteristic of themselves- they designate, half in jest, though scarcely half in earnest, as an institution. Thus the memory of George Washington is an institution, the Falls of Niagara are an institution, the Plymouth Rock, on which the Pilgrim Fathers first set foot , is an institution, Bunker Hill is an institution ; and the Volunteer Fire Department is a great institution.
