About

Martinez Library provides public internet computers, WIFI, a steady supply of new materials, and provides regular programming for all ages.

Description

The Martinez library, completed in 1941, is located in an historic downtown waterfront community that also hosts the county government center for Contra Costa. The library houses a small historical collection that includes works by many famous local and state figures, including Martinez resident John Muir. Hanging in the library are portraits of Dr. and Mrs. John Strentzel, painted by Muir's friend and noted California artist William Keith. In addition to the historical, Martinez Library provides public internet computers, WIFI, a steady supply of new materials in various formats, and provides regular programming for children, teens, and adults. The Library was renovated and expanded with funds from Measure H and re-opened on August 20, 2011.

The staff is helpful and friendly. The only drawback at this location, as others have noted, is the lack of free parking.
The library has great programs for kids! They gave out fantastic prizes for the "read beyond the beaten path" program. They make reading fun. I love the contra costa library programs and policies!
.... A year or so ago, they remodeled the place and made it AWESOME, there's new computers and the book shelves are spread out giving the appearance of a more spacious library. The circulation desk is cool with the book drop right in front. Makes the business of doing books in a friendly atmosphere and a fun place to be.. The court building is right across the street from this location and so a lot of heated people frequent visiting here, it's just a really good place where people with any kind of stress can go and feel comfortable.
Pretty safe neighborhood but not always easy to park. Streets are metered! If you find parking and actually get inside, the people you'll find are nice. The library is quite small in size with limited content but most regular people will find what they need in there!
The Man working wasn't very helpful when I asked if he could help me on a Job application online with the computer .. I recommend the Pleasant Hill Library .. They are more understanding when it comes to helping someone who has little experience on a computer ..
Martinez library get 3 star as when i visted the library one of the worker dennis was very rude to me and disrespectful and this when i was asking for a time extension on work i was doing at the library for legal reasons and was verbally assaulted spoke to the boss she was on it immediately and i really appreciate her help and love martinez library they help me find my love of baseball as a child in summer program wish it had more fall reading programs and more funding for programs for are youth
Real nice staff. They also have a CD and movie section apart from the books.
Free copies and several computers open. It is always clean and quiet. Great place to read.
Hours aren't very good and although the building is old, it could be updated to be a bit more welcoming.
Nice, small library. The people are friendly but parking can be scarce.
