Working to serve marymount students
The purpose of the Student Government Association is to be the official representative of the student body; to provide a balanced forum for communication between students, faculty, and administration; to advance student opinions and concerns through legislative action; and to ensure a fair and representative judicial process.
The Student Government consists of three branches, The Executive, Legislative and Judicial.
The Legislative branch is referred to as the Senate, made up of of 20 Senators who produce legislation on behalf of the student body to improve and represent student life and sentiment at marymount.
The Executive branch consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, tasked with various critical functions of government administration.
The Judicial branch is maintained by three Justices (one of whom is chief) who sit on a Constitutional court and produce verdicts on constitutional litigation.
"WE THE STUDENTS of Marymount University resolve that as sovereign equals, we shall cooperate in friendly association to maintain the common ground for which our community strives;
WITH THIS UNDERSTANDING we hereby agree that we, the student body, desire a union that recognizes the sovereignty of the student community and serves to represent its will;
IT IS WITH THAT GOAL that we establish and affirm this Constitution for the Marymount University Student Government Association."
The Student Government Association is a group of committed student leaders who defend the values of the institution, uphold the Student Government Association Constitution, promote unity and spirit within the Marymount University community, and represent the best interest of their peers.
