Nice lodge with nice rooms. The room was a bit warm but the provided fan helped a ton. The 2 restaurants on property were good. Not anything super special but good. The major downside is there is nothing to do in the area minus a couple hiking trails on property. If you aren't in for hiking or doing an excursion, you might find yourself bored. All in all it was nice for the day we were there. But I couldn't imagine spending more than one night.
So much to do there. It is a beautiful resort and the view of Denali was specular!!! We feel as though the common areas where the rooms are needs some updating. the carpets fere very dirty. The food and service were great. our meals were quite goodRooms: 4/5
Rooms are very nice and clean. We ate 2 meals in the North Fork our waitress Donna was very nice. Girls at the front desk were very pleasant. Lodge is beautiful. Enjoyed the landscape, nature walk and the tree houseRooms: 5/5
We checked in with Princess land tours, so I am not sure what we paid for 3 days and 2 nights. The lodge is beautiful, with a fireplace just off the registration area, next to Basecamp Bar & Grill. In this area is a player piano which entertained us with show tunes. The view out of the huge windows is probably more impressive when it is not raining or cloudy. During our time here, it was rainy and cloudy so we never saw the mountains, especially Denali. Other sections of the lodge included Northfolk Restaurant, a computer station, tables and chairs for games MANY games supplied at front desk, an ongoing jigsaw puzzle one completed and started during our stay, a separate room with another fireplace, books & magazines, a Denali National Park Information desk, and Bruin Coffee Cafe, with Starbucks coffee. On the other end, is a very nice gift shop with lots to offer. On the way to the gift shop are displays and photographs about Denali. Our room was in Bldg. 23, closest to the Lodge, Hudson Theater, and 23,320 Restaurant. A shuttle is available out front to take you to the lodge about a 20 minute ride, one of the other 21 buildings - no 7 or 13 buildings, or trails. The road is one way. The shuttle drivers are friendly, have lots of good information to share, and are safe drivers. We had a king size bed woke up with backache both mornings, 4 comfortable pillows, four chairs, a desk area with lamp & tea/coffee service, round glass top table, 2 end tables with lamps and charging stations, phone, clock radio, a love seat, dresser with four drawers, and closet with lots of hangers. The ceiling fan was nice to circulate air. We had a tub/shower, and the plumbing worked. Only complaint was hearing rushing water when showering. The flat screen TV had adequate channels, but we had no wifi. Wifi was only in common areas - lodge, gift shop, restaurants. The staff was exceptional in all areas. They were 5+ stars. It was the little things that were 3 and 4 stars: not so comfortable bed, no wifi in bedroom, an hour to Walkeeta $10 round trip shuttle, limited menus at the restaurants, and thin walls next door neighbor loved to talk on the phone, but stopped at a decent time at night.
late may trip It is going to be hard to find a place that can beat the views of Denali in the clear that you can see from the lodges porch! Such a wonderful group of people on staff and such a clean lodge. The rooms were lovely although they are super spread out across the area so please do indicate in a reservation if you need accommodations to allow you to be closer to the lodge! Coming back from covid has been difficult as they lacked some resources for the coffee shop and its menu. Though the bar had wonderful cocktails! Around the outside of the lodge some of the trails need some maintenance. Otherwise an absolutely wonderful place!!
Nice lodge and a great location. We stayed one night and had about 2 days there, and I believe that was enough for our family of 5. Without going into town, there's not a whole lot to be done. There are a few hiking trails on property as well as the little treehouse structure built. The food was good and beer selection was also pretty good. Didn't encounter any wildlife and we went in July. *Much better* lodge than the Denali/Holland America lodge a couple of hours up north, which we visited via train.
We participated in a Princess Cruise-Tour. One of our stops was Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. First I have to say thank goodness we were only there one night. There is no A/C. I understand it's not always needed in certain climates I live in Colorado in a house with no A/C, however our room was HOT. There was one window which makes circulating air difficult the buildings look like any standard hotel in the US where A/C would be installed. We did have a fan in our room from what we could tell all rooms had ceiling fans and a second standing fan so clearly this is a known issue. It would have been nice if our window had been opened before our arrival to help with the room temperature I really cannot understate just how stuffy our room was. This problem more a design flaw, not really a reflection on the management or people working at the lodge. This section I included in multiple reviews: We were part of a Princess Cruise-Tour. One component I didn't fully understand was how you move from lodge to lodge. It starts with your arrival. At each lodge you get an envelope, it has your room key, important information about the lodge including any reservations you have made for activities or dining and luggage tags. You remove your current luggage tag and place the new tag on your suitcase before putting it outside in the morning the information envelope tells you the time it must be outside. The staff then take your luggage and transport it to the next stop. You go about your day and in the evening at your next lodge the process repeats. It is a seamless way of making this travel managable and fun. There is no check-in line, no delay when you arrive waiting on room keys. The minute you have your envelope the time is yours to relax, explore, eat, drink, socialize. This was a fantastic way to vacation - like a road trip without the stress of a road trip.
This lodge is a little outdated but still nice. However, it is in the middle of nowhere and thus you have to eat there and the restaurants were very understaffed. Everyone was very nice but waiting an hour to eat when you have no other options was frustrating. And it was definitely staffing, the place was half empty, they just have no one to wait on the tables. This is 100% Princess's fault. They surely know they do not have enough staff, so why on earth do they book people into a property that cannot handle that many guests? Unfortunately, they served my child raw chicken tenders. Thankfully she asked a grown up to cut them for her and so we noticed before she ingested any of it but it was gross. The food was otherwise good but to be honest, we were all checking carefully that everything was cooked after that . It was quiet and peaceful and the shuttle system down to Talkeetna was great. The ranger exhibit in the lobby was very cool for the kids. The gift shop was very nice.
Staff was friendly and the rooms aren’t too bad. A few things about the place, buildings are all super spread out and the shuttles run pretty infrequently. Tough for the older crowd to get around. Food is all really expensive on property and there are not many options. Simple things that I thought they might include considering the price we are paying s’mores by the fires, small bag of popcorn at bar cost money, and I just hoped for a little more. Not a whole lot to do on property, but if you’re there just for a day it’s not too bad.
We arrived at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge on June 14-15. We were greatly surprised by our nice accommodations in comparison to our stay the nights before at the Denali Princess Wilderness Hotel. The lodge itself was wonderfully decorated and clean. The staff was more than friendly and the sights of Denali were fantastic. Yes, we were part of the 30%'s who saw all of Denali from the lodge patio deck! The room was clean and the restaurants served great food!
