Not bad for a medical establishment. Emergency care is the best of medicine. They aren’t perfect, but they aren’t bad. Between myself and many relatives, we have had a ton of Er experience, and many visits here. Most of the staff are very friendly and genuinely care about helping others. I’ve only met 2 poor staff members, a NP and a snooty medical assistant. For an ER you get in and out pretty quickly. I mean, they are seeing a hundred patients or so at a given time. It’s clean. They’ll talk to you about results. They give informational hand outs. They connect you with follow up Physicians. I don’t think I’ve ever met such kind medical professionals who are actually helpful. Nothing is perfect, and the non emergency offices at Meritus are lacking, but the ER staff do really try.
I’ve been to this ER twice before and from experience it’s about the same as any ER overworked and understaffed and most of the staff are just going through the motions until the end of their shift. Unfortunately I took my 17 month old son there today and the way I felt when we left has been eating at me ever since! I try to avoid the ER at all costs but was suggested to take my son due to him being sick. He has been fighting a high fever for several days and even though I had been giving him Tylenol and Motrin on a schedule his fever spiked to 105.7 this afternoon. I followed what I knew best to bring him down to a lower temp of 103.8 before bringing him. The check in was awesome the young ladies very thoughtful and caring and got him checked in. We only sat in the waiting area for maybe 45 minutes before taking us back. From there a nurse came in about 30 minutes later giving him more Motrin. Then 2 hours passed before she came back and checked his temperature. Thankfully down to a safe level of 99.8. Then about 45 minutes later a doctor by the name of J Williams came in. Listened to his breathing checked his ears. Proceeds to tell me that tests for COVID and RSV came back negative and that he is relatively healthy. When I asked him if I should not have been concerned with his fever almost at 106 he replied with “I didn’t say that but I’ve never seen a child explode from a fever”! Completely unnecessary comment or joke or whatever he was trying to make. I then asked him what should I watch for and be concerned about and his answer was “ I can’t give a time frame on fevers”. Once again giving me no kind of reassurance or information on what to do for my son other then keep him on the over the counter medication that clearly was not working. He said he would give us discharge papers and if I wasn’t comfortable I could always bring him back even though I wasn’t comfortable and was there standing in front of him?! Upon receiving discharge papers in the instructions it said to give him over the counter medication and recommend a “brat” diet rather than fatty foods like McDonald’s! Why am I putting my child on a specific diet with no stomach or food related issues and why is he implying that I feed my child McDonald’s when he is not obese or show any food related issues! This man was a complete joke of a doctor and definitely should not be doing that job. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional to crack jokes make remarks about a sick child that is supposed to be in his “care”. Clearly he has no bedside manners and does not care about the well being of patients coming into their ER! In the future I will avoid this ER at all cost!
On 12/27 I was in the emergency room at the recommendation of my pediatrician with my 4 day old who had turned jaundice; they took us right back which was great. But that’s about where it ends. They took and reviewed the results and said they wouldn’t be sending us to the pediatric floor and instead made us wait in the germ riddled non emergent care waiting for a BiliLamp to be delivered so we could be discharged. Around 9:50 I hit the call button to ask about having a bottle of formula delivered for my daughter who was coming up due for another feed in the up coming hour. Lindsey asked me what he was on and told me she would go get it. About 10 mins go by and nothing. Okay, maybe she got pulled into a code stroke that happend at CT. Another 15 and my little girl has now started crying and is hungry. I hear her and the other nurses horsing around the nurses station telling stories about them trying to train the new nurses and how one lady was actually bleeding so heavy from a miscarriage she coded. I hit my call button another 3 or 4 times. My daughter was so upset and distraught she had kicked off her O2 sensor they put on her and all. Did any one once come check on us ? No. I’m so angry I’m crying and I open up the curtain and have to raise my voice to get their attention. When I asked what happened to the bottle she was supposed to bring to me OVER an hour ago she cuts me off and says “OH WE’RE getting ready to discharge you. When I told them they hadn’t bought me my bottle I’d asked for the made snide remarks and walked off. I had my baby water in ther car to make formula. As I was packed because they originally said we were gonna be staying. Which I was trying to have some one watch to go get to feed my little. But obviously call bells mean nothing . They were snacking and eating at the station. Had the very same woman who neglected my babies needs help me to my car.
Wait times was agonizing waited three hours to go get my father treated. Tech was rude. Nurses and doctor was very polite and friendly, beautiful. Very helpful and taught me a few things to help with my fathers recovery. Very cold in er, was not provided a blanket. The curtains need a good cleaning could still see blood in them.
A tad bit cold for me in the ER waiting area. The check-in process was proficient and to be helped by the attending nurse was not long after. I was pleased with the service that was received. Thank you Meritus!
First time here. I’ve never been to a hospital that has security at the front door to wand you for weapons. Front desk staff was really nice and quick. However I don’t know how this hospital works.. I arrived at 10:30pm, had blood work done at 11pm without seeing a Doctor. I don’t know what labs the ordered or why. I was told to sit in the waiting room until I was called again. ~the waiting room was sketchy with a woman obviously going through some kind of drug withdrawal, and a young man with an open would on his hand BLEEDING and flailing it around. So - blood droplets. If I didn’t already have Covid I would absolutely have caught it there. I came to the emergency room for right abdominal pain, my primary doctor was concerned it’s my gallbladder because I have Covid. I have Covid and was sitting in a room with the general public, even though I was wearing a mask I was coughing, and sweating the virus everywhere. I tried to remain 6 foot distance but people kept sitting near me. If you were in the ER 8/11/22 and you get Covid. I’m Sorry. I left at 1:45 am because I’m sick, like really sick with Covid and I couldn’t take it, I was too exhausted and sick to wait any longer. I would rather drive 1.5 hours to Leesburg VA to seek medical attention.
Every single person I dealt with every step of the way went above and beyond. Had a room almost immediately after triage. Intake workers, nurses, and the PA that saw me were absolutely amazing. Could not have asked for better service and the help that I got was unmatched by any and every emergency room I have ever visited. Thank you so much to all the employees that played a role in my visit today. Keep up the good work.
Every experience I have had here has been such a trainwreck, but tonight made me write this review. I came into the ER with chest pains and very high blood pressure. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERES LIMITED DOCTORS AND ROOMS AVAILABLE, but why have I been waiting in the waiting room for over 7.5hrs WAITING ON MY LAB RESULTS. An xray, blood work, and EKG test. 7 and a half hours and it’ll probably still take longer than this, just to more than likely get a piece of paper telling me what the test results were which wont even take 15 minutes. MY GOD GOOD THING I DIDNT HAVE REAL ISSUES. Just purely, ridiculous!!!!
I came in with severe chest pains. I’m currently sitting in the waiting room and have been here for 6 hours. Other patients have been told there’s a 10 hour wait, which is insane. I’ve watched children come in and wait just as long. It’s absolutely ridiculous that anyone, let alone a child or a person with chest pains a potentially fatal issue should wait anywhere near that amount of time. The waiting room staff are rude and clearly have no desire to be helpful or compassionate. Avoid this place and just spend a little more time to get to the DC area where there’s decent medical care available.
Staff is criminally negligent and awful. I have been a patient here many, many times and 99% of the time I have received horrible care. From being left in the waiting room for over an hour while actively seizing and being denied prescribed and necessary medication to being slapped in the face by a nurse in the lobby. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
