Step into MerMade Designs and you can practically feel the sand between your toes. This sea inspired home décor and gift store, originally opened in The Cove shopping center in August 2010 has since relocated to a larger store front at 351 Old Newport Blvd in 2015. MerMade Designs is a locally owned and operated creation by Merideth Fleener. Products made by Merideth, hence the name “MerMade”, accompany multiple other local artists, designers as well as hand selected treasures. MerMade Designs is packed with a variety of beach themed gifts, natural coral pieces, shell encrusted picture frames, sea-inspired paintings, artwork, driftwood wreaths and much more.
"I have grown up and lived near the beach my whole life and consider it a strong part of who I am. I absolutely love the ocean, the sand, Summer Days and the smell of sunscreen” says the Newport Heights resident and mother of three, who grew up in Laguna Beach, Hawaii, and Florida. "When I find that items, gift, decoration or whatever that makes me think of the beach – it just makes me smile and happy. If it makes me happy I want to share it with my customers whom I consider my friends.” Merideth's beachy casual personal style is apparent in the relaxed aesthetic of her store which overlooks Newport Blvd and the rush of people heading to and from the beach.
MerMade Designs offers a variety of goods, which range from $5 to $3,500. Treasures include: beach accessories, jewelry, kitchen ware, art, pillows, bath and body, rugs, wreaths, driftwood items, holiday items, gifts, furniture, décor, coral and of course sea shells and mermaids. Most of MerMade Designs items can be seen on her website, but seeing them in person is a must. Any item can be filled on a personal level, as well as bulk and special orders are often accommodated.
