A unimaginable day of climbing and investigating! This park is such a moderately obscure pearl among the magnificence that are our public parks. I began right on time at 4am OK perhaps that was too soon and began my drive to the recreation area from Monticello, UT. While sitting around idly for my most memorable visit at Overhang House, I scrutinized a portion of the verifiable destinations along the circle. One thing of note...the street prompting Gallery House was shut with an entryway and various development signs. At any rate, I was so dampened for some time in believing that they never refreshed their site and sold tickets. While visiting a portion of the destinations, and drawing closer 8:30am, I began to see vehicles over where I thought the visit was. I flew into my vehicle and figured out that they had opened the door. Perhaps getting to the site two hours ahead of schedule was the issue. So at any rate, in the event that you book an early visit, give the awesome Officers a chance to awaken and open the entryway : The visits I additionally went to Bluff Castle were fantastic. I was simply in amazement the whole time. The Officers were educated and incredible to talk with. Having the option to investigate so near such a noteworthy site was unbelievable. Try to do a portion of different climbs in the recreation area as I found that a many individuals adhere to the primary attractions and don't wander as much on the paths as in different parks. Which gives you some pleasant harmony and isolation.
Absolutely incredible. One of our favorite parks we have been to! We did the Long House tour and are so lucky we got to experience that. It was incredible witnessing history having been preserved so well and seeing how the ancestral Pueblo once lived. Not a bad hike, but definitely recommend taking water and snacks. The whole park was gorgeous and we even saw wild horses!
It is a beautiful park. We did the 700 year tour. It is about 4 hours and they will bus you around to the different sites in a nice cooled bus. Our tour guide was amazing, he was very knowledgeable and he had a lot of passion for the sites. You'll want to stay 2 or 3 full days. Do the hikes and tours to get the best experience. As for wildlife, we didn't see a ton, but what we did see was different. We saw wild horses, turkeys, and other beautiful birds.
An incredible day of hiking and exploring! This park is such a relatively unknown gem amongst the beauty that are our national parks. I started early at 4am okay maybe that was too early and started my drive to the park from Monticello, UT. While waiting around for my first tour at Balcony House, I perused some of the historical sites along the loop. One thing of note...the road leading to Balcony House was closed with a gate and numerous construction signs. I was so disheartened for a while in thinking that they never updated their site and sold tickets anyway. While touring some of the sites, and approaching 8:30am, I started to see cars over where I thought the tour was. I flew into my car and found out that they had opened the gate. Maybe just getting to the site two hours early was the issue. So anyway, if you book an early tour, give the wonderful Rangers some time to wake up and open the gate : The tours I also went to Cliff Palace were incredible. I was purely in awe the entire time. The Rangers were knowledgeable and great to converse with. Being able to explore so close to such a historic site was incredible. Make sure to do some of the other hikes in the park as I found that a lot of people stick to the main attractions and don't meander as much on the trails as in other parks. Which gives you some nice peace and solitude.
We enjoyed the historical tour tremendously! Our group had 10 people including 4 children and everyone enjoyed every bit of it. The total hike was roughly 2.5 miles. Very doable for all ages. We had a 3 & 5 year old that completed the whole tour easily. Great views and history lesson for our 12 & 13 yr old girls. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone who is interested in our lost history.
Amazing!!! Restrooms are standard park type, and there are lots of them which is nice. Visitor center is very nice with lots of info. We stayed on main trails. We saw some of the feral horses which was very cool. Roads, bathrooms and trails are very well maintained. We'll be back!
Return trip now that Cliff Side loop is open. Still some work to be done on some of the viewing areas. I didn’t have time to go down to the ruins but my views were great. Cloudy w mild temps were perfect. I’ll be going back in 2 weeks for the 700 year guided tour. There must be over 14 cliff dwellings here A nice hotel with a great restaurant and rooftop cocktails Go stay for a couple of days and plan well.
Phenomenal park in Southwest Colorado. Extensive trail system leading to cave dwellings of indigenous people. Great visitor center and ranger station. Need at least two full days to explore. Lodge in the park is excellent. Several ranger lead tours. Overall a fantastic experience.
Wow! My wife and I visited here 20± years ago when our kids were small, we both were so impacted by the incredible beauty and mystery of this place, that we had to come back and experience it again. This time we brought the Harley and rode throughout the park and it did not disappoint! The cliff dwellings are truly awe inspiring. Come early and stay late, sunsets are amazing here.
I stumbled upon this and wasn't sure if I had time in my travels. But on a gut feeling I stopped. I spent 6 hours there. IT WAS AWESOME. The staff was great every place I went. The history is awesome and well told. I did not do a guided tour. But I am sure it would have been even better. The entire park was nicely groomed and well kept up. What a great unexpected adventure.
