I am an Osteopathic Physician in Santa Barbara, California, board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.
I am a D.O. — an Osteopathic Physician. What is a D.O.? In a nutshell, a D.O. is a combination of the knowledge of an M.D. with the hands of a Chiropractor, a Massage Therapist, and a Physical Therapist all put together. But even more than that, an Osteopathic Physician sees the patient as a compilation of multiple parts---mind, body, and spirit--and realizes that successful treatment of that patient is achieved when these three areas are addressed.
As a board-certified Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (OMM/NMM) specialist, I focus on using hands-on manual therapies to evaluate and treat the body's musculoskeletal, vasculo-lymphatic, and nervous systems.
New patient appointments are 90 minutes, and follow-up visits are 45 minutes. Each visit includes the taking of a history and physical examination, with the collection of vital signs (heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure). The next step of the appointment can include hands-on Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), referral for blood work or imaging studies, referral to another specialist (such as Orthopedics, Rheumatology or Neurology), or in some cases all of the above.
Often, OMM/NMM treatments are reimbursable by your insurer, but may require referral by your Primary Care Physician (PCP). Check with your doctor and insurance company for further details. I do not bill directly to insurance, but I do provide a superbill so that you may submit to your insurer for reimbursement.
