Stopped in for the drive in movie experience with my girl. Was old school and modern at the same time. Great feel, was outdoors but intimate at the same time. People working were fantastic. Screens were done nicely and light pollution was not a factor. Used FM radio for the sound, but some screens had an old school window speaker. We watched from the hatch, with extra pillows and blankets. Make your experience as fun as you want. We wore our PJs. I highly recommend this place, come out for a cool experience if you’ve never done so before.
I bought a five person car pack that included candy and popcorn. We got three candies and one popcorn. The movie and location were fine, the weather was great, but my kids and I were disappointed. Honestly, I was happy to pay the ticket price of $85 for the kids and I, to include a candy and popcorn each but this was just... wow. For two extra popcorn bags come on, thats like two bucks they could have turned this whole experience around. We wanted to love this as our new local drive in but the customer service just did not deliver. Save your money, stream it or go to the theatre and spend the same or less for a better experience. Hey personally, next time we're going to put together a pillow fort in the living room with plenty of popcorn and candy for under $10.
This is a MUST do if you've moved to Austin and wanna know what the vibe is here. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this Austin staple! I've been going here since 2011 and saw them through all their moves. I'm so happy they're back on the east side, this drive-in movie theater just embodies Austin. Weird and spooky decor, multiple ways to watch and enjoy films old and new, food/drinks available but also not required to purchase, and friendly/chilled staff. Go for a date night, but also pile all your blankets and pillows in your hatchback and get all your friends to come through.
This is not really a functional movie-going experience, especially for the price. Two of us watched a movie in the Forest Screen, and while the quality of the projection was very good, everyone in the audience could barely hear the movie. There are just two computer speakers at the front, which were drowned out by the sounds of airplanes, cars, the gas generator, and even the speakers from cars watching movies at other screens. When I requested they turn up the volume, they tried but were unable to. There were also fire-ants crawling over us, and junk everywhere. And not tasteful junk, but things like a broken down pontoon boat, sunbleached carts from Academy, and contractor garbage bags. All of that is fine for watching a movie in a friend's backyard, but we paid $36 in total for the experience. At the very least, you should be able to hear a movie for that price. AND we were promised "live fog" and there was none to be seen.
We LOVED this hidden gem!! Even though our projector went out, we still were able to catch the tail end of another movie and they gave us a rain check for another showing. Best girls night we’ve had in a while.
Such an incredible experience! When we arrived on the wrong night for our movie, the owner took it upon himself to play it on an empty screen for us. So nice of him, and an amazing experience!
This place is so perfect- the decorations and vibes are immaculate. Went to see The Fog and there was an actual fog machine set up. Cozy backyard vibes and the popcorn is great- they even had RC Cola.
Great little drive in! The only issue we had is when we went to see Gold Finger, the movie has issues for a good 20 minutes. With about 2 cars there to watch, they didn't let us know what was going on or how quickly they were trying to get it resolved for us.
This little gem just on the fringe of Austin is such a cool & eclectic experience! My darling family of 4 loaded up our SUV with blankets, chairs, small picnic table, fresh pressure cooked pulled pork & slaw and headed out for the evening to see some fantastic movies in a double feature. We were greeted warmly by the owner as he checked our reservation & guided us to a perfect spot under large oak trees where we could park it for the evening with the gate lifted. Everything was set up within a few min and our kids were off bounding through the expansive green yard to play toss games, frisbee & meet other kids their age. We set up the back of the car like a bed and my husband and I enjoyed date night on the chairs drinking good margaritas! It's BYOB, so be reasonable with behavior or they'll kick you out We served up dinner, shared with some neighbors, visited concessions where we grabbed popcorn, Harry Potter chocolate frogs & some wizardly jelly beans! The kids fell asleep in the car after the first movie giving us a great second movie date night. The facilities were spectacularly clean, the staff friendly & helpful and everything was coming up roses all evening! BEST FAMILY DATE NIGHT EVER!
Great little drive in. Only qualm I have is the Mike & Ike’s I bought were pretty well melted together so was a bit of a bummer, but otherwise nice staff and great atmosphere. Come check it out for a very unique Austin experience.
