The staff was friendly and the play areas were a lot of fun for my granddaughters to explore. They enjoyed the castle and energy areas. It was clean and a safe place with a goid variety of hands on activities to explore. We spent 4 hours there with lunch in between. Can't wait to go back to see the Clifford exhibit!
Small and friendly, but interesting for a three year old who is still learning what she likes the best. For kids eight and older, this little satellite is probably not as interesting any longer, once they've been here once or twice. But for younger kids, it's great. Rarely crowded, usually very accessible for free play.
It's great with larger groups. A little sad if your kid is the only one there. Definitely worth a look if you have a group of 3 or more. There are mice and fish here. Display could be better. Overall I would take groups of kids here. Would visit again.
Went with grandson on field trip. Thought it was pretty good. They do a lot with power or electricity. The kids loved it.
The museum leaves so much to be desired. I have visited with my children in the past and we enjoyed the exhibits. The winter books exhibit of a few years ago was creative and engaging and most importantly had a variety of different activities. The current energy exhibit is not interesting beyond the first few minutes. It has also been at the museum for quite a long time. Multiple block areas also do little to further the imagination and lack variety. The staff were friendly enough, but not engaging. One staff member consistently told children not to press the buttons, but did not speak to them in a positive manner or utilize language you would expect at a facility geared toward children. Why were there no staff members leading activities? What are they doing? I think it would improve the facility to have at least one person on staff who knows how to talk to and engage children. The different centers were also in a poor layout. I am wholly disappointed and feel as though this business has no motivation to inspire the creative exploration to be expected of a children’s museum. Please save your money and go to ABC toyzone for story time or the Public Library.
The museum was much smaller than expected, but my 5 year old still had a blast and was refusing to leave, so that's all that matters! They had a medieval castle theme in most of the displays. The staff was helpful in explaining different facts about each display.
My 1-1/2 year old loved it. I was really frustrated with the cars because they were missing so many pieces you couldn't actually make cars with the parts that were there. My biggest issue is that the whole area is all ages so if you have little ones, they get sometimes literally run over by bigger kids not paying attention. I had to step in and grab golf balls for my little one to put on the spiral because the big kids would take them ALL before he could grab just one. Would be nice if there was a separate area for younger kids.
We were able to get a family pass when they were running a special and we have already more than gotten our money's worth. We love that they change the front room exhibit fairly often as well as the back room sensory bin. My 4 yo and 1 yo always have a great time investigating and learning through creative play! Some of the Google images are from the St Paul location, not Rochester
Great value at less than $200/yr for a family membership for a 4yr,3yr,1yr old. We go to the big one in Minneapolis about 3x per year for free and this one about 1-2x per month. Great value and much better than spending my days off at my house while my kids tear it apart from boredom. You can only spend so many winter days stuck in the house.
The museum itself is clean however there is very little to do. Half the exhibits are for 2-4 year olds and the other half are for 4th grade and higher. Anyone rating this place higher than three stars hasnt been to a worth while childrens museum before. The staff is a bit overbearing also, kids want to play not be limited in EVERY little thing.
