History:
Its name may be Modern Hardware, but this company has a rich history behind it and offers much more than just hardware. The company was originally established in 1924 at its current location in Grand Rapids, under the name Oakdale Fuel & Materials. Over the years, Modern Hardware's offerings grew and changed with the times, from coal and building materials to builders' supplies, decorative hardware and fireplaces.
The company has been Family-owned and operated since the early 1970's. Now in it’s second-generation, it is currently owned by Elaine Dreyer and her husband Rick, along with her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Vicki Vander Lugt. As one might expect from a family-run business, Modern Hardware has always offered a personal touch when it comes to shopping, and a pledge to "treat customers with honesty and integrity".

Along with being a full line hardware store where you can find anything from a single screw to power tools and paint, Modern Hardware also specializes in decorative hardware. Modern will walk you through the selection process for your new home or remodeling project. We will work closely with your builder and designer, coordinating the hardware process and even offer installation services.
Modern Hardware is also well equipped to work with builders and contractors. Stocking everything from drawer slides to hand tools to adhesives, all your needs on the job site are covered. In addition to that, Modern also provides delivery service, job counts and installation assistance.
