Provides emergency shelter, food and intensive support for homeless families with children.
MIHN provides transitional housing and support services for homeless families with children. 37% of the homeless population is made up of families and 50% of the people in those families are children under 6. Without family oriented shelters, families often choose to stay homeless rather than split up the family. MIHN keeps homeless families together while helping them to become self sufficient again.
The mission of the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network is to provide comprehensive assistance to homeless families and work to increase community involvement and advocacy. The Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network came into fruition in September 2003, emerging as a non-profit homeless shelter. Since its meager beginnings in Fitchburg, MA, MIHN has relocated to Leominster, MA in an effort to expand its capabilities of assisting those in need. The new property allowed MIHN to more than double its capacity for housing and has helped more than 140 families return to permanent housing.
