Montana Tech Baja Club is about designing and engineering, a marketable and competitive Baja Buggy for a Society of Automotive Engineers's yearly competition. The club competes versus other universities worldwide.
Montana Tech has been competing in the Baja SAE Collegiate Design Competition for the past 5 years although this is the first year the team will be officially recognized as a club by Montana Tech. This year the team will be competing nationally against teams worldwide on May 17-20 in Pittsburg, Kansas in the four events: acceleration, sled pull, maneuverability, and a four-hour endurance race. To compete the team will be designing, building and fabricating a buggy that meets the regulations required by SAE. In past years Montana Tech placed 35th out of 107 in 2017 and 78th out of 94 in 2016. The team’s goal is to keep the tradition of improving each year by getting in the top 25 team.
