i had an amazing experience a few months ago with a student that went above and beyond and i was hoping to get her again. instead i was immediately told i needed a barber, that scissors weren’t necessary, that i should just some volume out. my reference picture was basically ignored. don’t listen to their instructor “mr. b” the students i had both times were more knowledgeable than him. it took him less than 10 seconds to ruin my hair and the best stylist in the world couldn’t have done anything. it’s actually impressive how much the instructor was able to ruin my hair with just one or two strokes of the clippers, all the while speaking as if he knew exactly what he was doing. the best part is he took off right after the mistake. edit 2 days later: it’s incredible in the worst way possible that i’m able to find another spot that they screwed up. i spoke to someone that does hair and i’m essentially gonna have to shave it all off and wait for it to grow back to undo the damage so i guess i’ll be wearing a beanie for the next 4-6 months
As a former employee of Montgomery Beauty School, I am disappointed to say the least. Applying for the cosmetology instructor position via indeed, I was asked on Tuesday to come in for an interview for Wednesday. Wednesday was my interview, the very next day, I was working. No training whatsoever. I was there three months before I even received a syllabus to instruct. On Saturdays, there are no theory only clinic floor and practicals. The students haven’t had consistent instructors so they feel they can service clients when they feel like it. The students would sometimes get reprimanded for not being dress code but they didn’t even receive their scrubs or school shirts until after Christmas break, mind you, my students were seniors. Some seniors weren’t on the senior level because the school wasn’t organized. They don’t work out of their workbooks whatsoever. The class starts at freshman level, senior level and then you go into the “state board” class when you reach 1200 hours. I was never provided a kit or mannequin to demonstrate with because I was told a lot of former instructors and students have stolen before. If the director Anita weren’t present, instructors would just leave in the middle of the day, especially on a Saturday. I’ve never expected a perfect environment; this was just too unorganized. Due to miscommunication on my part, I will own that, I was terminated via text and then was later apologized to by the director for a schedule mix up. I then resigned because I was also told I was take off the schedule, and have been fighting for my resignation letter. It’s been two months. I looooove teaching so much that if I could, I’d do it for free. I do not have all the answers to operating a reputable cosmetology school but I do know what NOT to do. One day I will open my own cosmetology school. A blessing in every lesson…
I give Montgomery Beauty School five stars for saving the day yesterday I went to another beauty school that said they did natural hair only to find no one was available to do my hair that day. So I wasted my time and gas at the other school. Upon hearing this I called Montgomery to see if they can do my hair the gentleman who answered the phone was very professional and polite and reassured me that someone will be able to take care of me. I also wanted to say that the young lady Jay who did my hair was very cordial and professional as well. I will definitely be going back to get my hair done there!!
About a week ago I called and asked if they did braids, even asked it they provided hair. I was informed that they did but I'd need to come in for a quote/consultation. I went there this past Monday and waited at front desk for 5 mins or so. I decided to ask the person 10 feet from me if there was anyone taking care of the desk. A woman a few stations down said that she'd be there in a few. When she finally got to me I asked for the price for braids. Was informed that they didn't do braids. I pointed to their price board, with price for braids, was told that they only did short braids no extensions. Deceptive practices at best. If they couldn't keep story staight, I wouldn't trust them to do my hair. Total lack of integrity.
I'm going to piggy back of what Elita said in these reviews. This school is a huge rip off. I went there in 2007 and I later found out all the shady stuff they've been doing to students. I really didn't learn much because once I got to intermediate level I was often just there sitting for hours with no instructor to teach me anything. The school cost so much but I felt like with my supplies I got and the quality of teaching it didn't add up to what I paid. When I was in the beginners level our teacher was pretty decent but they were cramming new students in there so much I was often bumping elbows with the student next to me. This school is just a money grabber. There are so many better schools to go to.
Be ready to spend a lot of time here. Couldn't get my acrylic nails removed because the e-file machine broke and no slippers were offered for my pedicure until I asked at the end of the pedicure. My stylist did a good job washing and styling my hair and Ms. Matthews was constantly on the floor supervising and correcting the students but not the other supervisor/ teachers.
During my time at Montgomery Beauty school so far Ms. Roe has made it a great learning environment and very efficient and productive. Ms Roe is always ready to teach and help you with any challenges during class. Ms Nelvi is always kind and available to answer any questions we might have. Overall a great learning experience. :
I had a great service yesterday 2/8/2023 At the Silver Spring Montgomery County Beauty School, got a service from one of the student and help from the receptionist.
