This page is to give you insight on the fire station located and serving downtown Bethesda. While our fist due area has all types of structures from high-rises, commercial, garden apartments, and single family homes; we protect more people per square mile than any other station in Montgomery County, Maryland. Station 6 became an all career station July 1, 1939 and is one of 39 stations covering the County and has three 24-hour shifts of 7 career personnel each. We staff an Engine with A.L.S. capability and a Ladder Truck with auto extrication tools. We run all types of calls such as first responders on medical calls, motor vehicle collisions, service calls for systems and alarms, and structure fires.
Station 6 has been at its current location since 1969, moving here from an older station at Old Georgetown Road and Arlington Road. We run with other stations in Chevy Chase, Glen Echo, Cedar, Democracy, Cabin John, Montgomery Hills, and Potomac. We even run into the District of Columbia, N.I.H., and Navy Med at times. We are challenged with narrow and crowded streets, park land such as the Capital Crescent Trail, and the M.E.T.R.O. subway system. All part of the 2nd Battalion.
