Description

Fan Page - Moonlight Beach is a great place for almost any kind of beach activity, including swimming, surfing, sunbathing, picnicing, walking and jogging. The area just in front of the main beach is designated for swimmers only, with surfing designated to the north and south. The kelp beds a quarter mile off the beach makes this a good diving spot.

The only bad thing about this place is finding parking. This beach is probably our favorite beach just for the fact that it has everything! Showers, playground, food and drinks, lifeguards, and you can rent things for your leisure and fun or buy just about anything you have forgotten! Like I said, parking is a little challenging and another downside is it's almost always crowded but sometimes that's a good thing! Always have memoriable times here at Moonlight Beach! Playground: Great playground on a beach Restrooms: A beach with restrooms!
Moonlight beach is one of the best beaches in Southern California! Calm waters and plenty of space for everyone. During the summer months especially, this place gets really crowded, but the sheer size of the beach accommodates all! The beach is mostly clean and kid friendly.
Pretty cool beach. They have decent bathrooms and outdoor showers. There was a little Cafe and playground. I rode my bicycle and they had plenty of good bike racks, that were buried in the concrete, not just loosely bolted in. So I felt comfortable locking up my bicycle, along with all the other bikes. They also had volleyball nets. Restrooms: Fairly nice. A tad smell, but not as bad as Oceansides beach bathrooms.
Fabulous beach! Great for families and groups. Alllll the facilities, even rentals and food/drinks. Plenty of free parking. Currently May 2023 the beach is still covered in rocks after the storms but soon there will be a sandy beach again. Great starting point for beach walks. Even at high tide some beach available unlike other access points.
We had a great day at this beach, fairly easy access, clean bathrooms, great amenities, loved the park area, had a good time looking through the rocks, and finding treasures.
My 2 favorite things I like about Moonlight State Beach are the relatively sizable free parking lots here. One, from B Street, you'll make a left onto a perpendicular street, right before the large beach-level parking lot. You'll l then proceed uphill a short ways, when you'll notice a medium-size parking lot on the right, which you may turn into. If no parking there, usually a summer-time problem, continue up this hilly road, where you'll find spaces ringing the U shaped road, which ends on a tall bluff, overlooking Moonlight State Beach. The big parking lot, you proceed on B Street, beach-ward, until it dead-ends into a mega- large free parking lot, that's at beach level- more or less. I also love how close it is to the beach, from the parking lots. We watched an epic sunset at this beach, on 1/12/23. Another plus here, if you like Beach Volleyball, is they have 3 regulation-size beach volleyball courts set up on the sand. If I were forty years younger, heck, I might even have been out there, playing on one. An added bonus is there are public restrooms & a small concession stand here. It's just a short jaunt across 40 yards of sand, or a provided concrete walkway, that dissects the middle of this beach, to the cusp of a short sand berm. From there it's downhill, across a slightly-inclined band of round rocks, which in turn give way to a thin bit of sand, at the water. These rocks, which shift under your feet as you walk, add interest to this rather plain-looking beach. I witnessed a continuous procession of 4 different waves lines form, from furthest, all the way into the more gentle shore breaker waves. The waves farthest out were nice-sized 7 footers, when we were here. I witnessed 2 surfers get some truly epic rides out there last night.
We love watching the sunset & surfers at Moonlight Beach. Parking is limited. Be mindful of how much you bring as you may have to walk awhile to get to the beach. The slope down to the beach might be steep for some folks. There's firepits, volleyball, BBQs, etc. There's also a snack bar...no idea about the hours, I've never seen it open and a lifeguard station. Be careful of who you buy firewood from as we witnessed a man in the parking lot sawing up pallets.. they are treated and definitely have toxic fumes. Be wary- the lookout often has sketchy people out and about. But overall a pretty chill place to hang out with friends & family or just go for people watching. Dog-friendliness: Dogs on leash, not on sand...so not dog friendly
Such a great spot for locals, be weary of visiting over the summer when it's absolutely packed with tourists. My favorite times here are in the fall and spring. Great playground on the beach with clean restrooms and a snack bar, and also has beach equipment rentals. Close proximity to lots of restaurants and shops in Encinitas. Again, if you come in the summertime make sure you get here around 8am for decent parking.
Beautiful peaceful vibrant beach... Nets to play volleyball tables for a picnic or just play board games and clean restrooms , as far a parking goes it might be challenging when it's busier than today but it's an awesome place to have a nice beach day .
This is beautiful. We didn't do the lovely park next to the beach, or the beautiful grassy area with picnic tables overlooking the stunning ocean view, but the beach alone was outstanding. With clean restrooms, a snack shack, place to rent umbrellas and boogie boards, and giant Baywatch-esk lifeguard tower right in the middle of it all, it was literally the best beach my family of 4 kids under the age of 11, and I, have ever been to.
