You come to Carmel as a Boy. If you care to struggle and work at it, you will leave as a Man.
Mount Carmel High School is Chicago’s premier Catholic college preparatory school for young men.
Located just south of the Museum of Science and Industry, the University of Chicago, and future Obama Presidential Center, Mount Carmel attracts students from over 250 grammar schools and 110 zip codes across the Chicagoland area and Northwest Indiana.
Over a century after Mount Carmel’s founding in 1900, under the leadership of the Carmelites, the school continues to fulfill its mission.
The mission of Mount Carmel High School is to Live with Zeal for God, for Life, and for Learning.
Our mission, and our desire to fulfill this mission is inspired by the inscription on the Carmelite shield found in the 1st Book of Kings, Ch 9: “Zelo Zelatus Sum Pro Domino Deo Exercituum,” which has been translated literally as “I have been most zealous for the Lord, the God of Hosts,” or more liberally as “I am filled with zeal for the Lord My God.”
It is with zeal that we as a community seek to instill a love for God, a passion for all that life offers, and a commitment to learning in all of our young men.
