Built in 1926. This historical theatre is like stepping back in time. It has one movie screen with red velvet lined wallpaper inside and a vintage popping machine that makes incredibly good popcorn. Films are critically acclaimed but no commercial blockbuster stuff here. Great atmosphere but can use a tidying up. Sad that the majority of the magnificent lights outside are not working. Still a must see place for a good movie.
Pizza at Viva Napoli! Had amazing tried neapolitan pizza. Celebrated our son's birthday with some buddies.
Rundown and old smells old and musky.... needs to be renavated .... price for a can of pop is outrageous! but the staff was very friendly and there were no previews to have to sit through. The film quality was perfect, as was the sound quality. Nice little place of historical value.
Great movies. Good prices. Parking hard to find on Mt. Pleasant Rd. Reminds me of movie theatres from long ago - like a long time ago. Never busy. You will get in. Love the retro red flocked wallpaper.
The Mount Pleasant Theatre, is 1 of my 2 favorite movie theatres in Toronto, the other being its' sister theatre, The Regent, in the 500 block of Mt. Pleasant. I've been attending movie showings at the Mount Pleasant Theatre, since I moved to the neighborhood, April 1, 1990. And that's no April Fool's joke. Both theatres have their 1927 cornerstone and take you back to the grand old days of Hollywood. This is no multiplex chain from the suburbs. This is the Real Deal, baby. You will pay $10 for an adult ticket, and get real buttered popcorn, not that GMO junk that is 1 molecule away from being plastic. The staff is older, friendly, cheerful and a delight to schmooze with They know their movies and what the neighbors like. The concession stand also features your favorite chocolate bars, soft drinks and of course, my perennial favorite, red licorice. There's no need to sneak cheap treats in, support your local indie film theatres and Mount Pleasant Theatre ranks at the top of this moviegoers list. I've seen everything over the years, from March of the Penguins, paid my $10, though I have seen it on CNN for free I wanted to experience viewing penguins hiking in -80 degrees, on the Big Screen, just so I could feel good when it's -25C on Mt. Pleasant and Soudan. Ahh, spring-like compared to what penguins must tolerate. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was viewed in the month of February, when the temperature in Toronto was about -10 C. Just had to see Hungary on the Big Screen. Tonight, I will see Budapest once more on the Big Screen, when I attend the 7 pm showing of The Grand Budapest Hotel. Yes, I have waited a few weeks to see it at the Mount Pleasant Theatre, and I know without a doubt, it's going to be worth the wait. So, if you're looking for the old fashioned movie experience, whether for you, your kids, friends, or grandkids, take them to the Mount Pleasant Theatre, for an unforgettable evening of what going to the movies used to feel like. Nostalgia never felt so good.
Super reasonably priced tickets and snacks, a cool period/no frills location, great movies, and friendly staff who seem to care that you had good experience. Can't ask for much more than that! Will be back
The most charming theatre, it’s like taking a time machine to see a movie. $10 a ticket, cash only Concession stand so affordable You have to see this place, really!
Friendly staff, and better popcorn than you find st cineplex. Classic styled theatre with relatively comfy seats. Nothing too fancy but nothing too terrible either.
I love the oldfahioned faded glamour of this place.it is comfortable — seats not too crowded/- and even cozy. Can be depended upon to show good films. Parking easy
If you are not a fussy person, this is the best movie theatre in Toronto. Movies are vetted by an expert and are excellent. No guesswork required. Love it!
