This place is really cool and there are some beautiful views from on top. I'm rating it as only 4 stars because of the man made towers and structures that are on top, distracting from the natural beauty. One really cool aspect of the trip is that you can drive almost all the way to the top on pretty good roads. There's a gate .6 of a mile from the summit, so you'll have to hike the rest of the way. The hike isn't bad. It's all dirt/ rock road but there is a 400-500 ft. elevation gain to get to the top. There are limited areas to leave your car outside of the gate, but we didn't have a problem.
Take BUMPY Senator highway all the way to the base of the HIKE to Mt. union. Stop along the way and take pics of the waterfalls and Hayassampa River. Hike 1 mile from base of mt. Union to top where you will see the towers. The observation deck was closed when we went.
The road to the top is currently closed, but I hiked it from the gate. Impressive view, can see the entire area from landing pad near tower. Shout out to forest service Noah! No restrooms, great cell service at top, 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix. I recommend good tires and at least a vehicle with a diff lock and some kind of 4wd. Fair amount of traffic but decent road to top makes passing less dangerous. Lots of other trails in the area for 4wd vehicles and such. Camping all around. Prescott has bars 45 mins from top. Great spot.
Beautiful destination in the Bradshaw Mountains. A must-do on the hottest days of summer. Take State Route 261 long after the Senator Highway has turned into a dirt road out of Prescott. Like on Spruce Mountain, the forest service maintains a seasonally manned fire lookout tower that welcomes visitors interested in the panoramic views and the rangers' work. A gate prevents you from driving right to the tower, so you'll have to walk about a half mile up the road from where you leave your SUV or truck. There are several hiking trails near the summit, including the Dandrea or Trail 285, which is a couple miles heavily wooded and scenic trek down to Potato Patch, a summer community.
This is one of the more underrated views in the state. You won't be disappointed!
There are several trails to the top but the road has a locked gate about 1 mile from the top. I believe there is a trail from the east side that ATVS can get up. The lookout tower is only used during the summer. The views are phenomenal.
My favorite spot when I am in the mountains around Prescott. The forest service lets you check out the fire tower here and the gentleman on watch was super friendly and interesting. Also certain times of the year the area is covered in ladybugs making it a really cool scene for the kids.
Beautiful place close to my house.
Top of the Bradshaw range. The perfect getaway area during the summer with an average 20 degree temp drop. Snow to play in during the winter. Hinge to the Senator Highway
Summer trips are beautiful awesome peaceful summer storms up there to be very heavy 2 deadly lightning storms there's been many many times when I was camping up there that I had to spend many nights sleeping in my car
