I attended a gym in the Bronx just like this place, which, unfortunately, it closed. My first time at this gym, the front guy disappointed me. I was recommended to go here by one of my gym friends. When I saw my friend I told him my experience. Well, yesterday I gave it a second chance. I never give up in life or get discouraged. So, I can honestly say yesterday's front guy, Kaii, was nicer and kind. He gave me a wonderful feeling of the place. I am going today, April 30th. Let's see how it goes. Well, it was great. It is the place to be. I loved my experience today. I am joining. Hey, it's hard to get a costume to a new gym at my age. I loved it. Josh was helpful, and so were many of the members there. So, hey, Star Fitness old members come to MT. Vernon Barbell. It's my new home, honestly the new home for us. I have been here now for a few weeks, and I love it.
I liked the gym. It was spacious alot of variety and even has free chalk for lifting. The music and staff was also good. The price is a little too steep for me, but it's deff a gym for those taking their workouts serious.
You're going to love this gym depending on what you're looking for. If you want strong man equipment atlas stones, farmer walks, yoke etc and other athletic equipment you won't find at most commercial gyms I.E. reverse hyper, power sled, tires etc, if you want a gym where people go to actually get stronger, more fit, athletic, if you want a gym where people are serious about their lifting craft, this is the place to be. The atmosphere can be intimidating but 90% of the people are very friendly and approachable. Willing to give you advice and help. The gym is not at all means the most aesthetically pleasing. It's dark, industrial and pretty dimly lit. If you want a bright, neon lit, sterile gym, not the place for you. The cleanliness could be better, and the organization could be better. I can say that. Sometimes weights and equipment is thrown and left all over the place. So annoying. This gym is kind of out the way depending on where you're located. It's only a 5 minute walk from the Mount Vernon west metro north station and about 10 minute walk from the 2 train from Wakefield. Driving is possible with good parking and there's some bee line buses that are close by. All-in-all, if you're serious about being an athlete, this IS the gym you want to be apart of in Westchester and NY in general. PROS: -A gym for people who are serious about gaining strength and being athletic -Lots of very strong people for extra motivation -Great community -Strong man equipment CONS: -A little out the way depending if you're outside or NYC though a quick walk from the Metro North -Not for those who want a regular, casual gym -Not pretty
This is not a place you come to get lavender towels or talk about piña colada's for Sunday brunch. When you come to MVB it's always time to work. This is great if you're looking for a more hardcore powerlifting feel.
My spouse has a membership here, and he took me to look around. If you like the straight get into it, work out, banging weights to make you feel that burn. It's not the fancy, just IG pic place because you're there to train and focus. This is the place to go. Highly recommend.
Here is the list of all the broken/repairs needed at Mount Vernon Barbell as of 6/16/2023 You decide if you still want to join this Gym after reading my review. "Belt Squat" machine is broken. "Arsenal Glute Bridge" machine repaired incorrectly: it does not go up all the way, also needs pads replacement for where it rests on your the hips and on the upper backside. "GHR" and "Back Extension" are both wobbly and need pad replacements. "Machine Good Morning " waist adjustment pad rusted off and is unusable. "Side Delt Lateral" machine right arm side does not engage properly. All of their adjustable benches nearest the Dumbells need back-rest pad replacements; as they are completely worn-down and your backside will rest on the bare steel. Three of their treadmills stall while in use. "Stair Master" is broken. "Stationary bike" is broken. Safety pins for the "Rouge Monster Power-Rack" is bent. Resistance bands that are provided are all missing, broken or just misplaced. "Squat Pro" machine needs new shoulder padding. Smith Machine needs to be completely replaced--very poor feel to it and not a smooth experience. "Lat-pull down" stations all need lubrication. "Chest Supported row" handles come off/wobble. Exercise balls, medicine balls, etc. are all worn down/deflated. " Cardio Rowing Machine" seat comes off. Box squat safety pins are missing. Restroom doors for the mens-room stalls are broken off. All that aside, its a great place for Barbell training, like the big three. You decided if you want to join MVB.
A great hardcore gym with great equipment and energy. It’s certified old school. Don’t expect group classes to tone up. There are people of every level, but they’re all serious about their training.
Had a Groupon and used it for a 30 minute deep tissue massage and 15 minute sauna session. Massage was good and the sauna had me feeling like butter! Will be back for sure
The gym has good equipment for powerlifting, but other than that, this place is owned by a xenophobic GANG, who pick and choose who the rules of the gym apply to. I was banned for discriminatory reasons, despite the fact that I had done nothing wrong. The staff was unprofessional and unwilling to listen to my side of the story. The discrimination I experienced at this gym is unacceptable, and I would not recommend this gym to anyone. It is important for businesses to treat all customers with respect and to ensure that discrimination of any kind is not tolerated. NOT TO MENTION: The neighborhood is not safe to drive in at all.
Most disgusting gym in westchester. You literally can not walk into the bathrooms without wanting to vomit. Staff are absolutely classless and don’t make you feel welcomed at all. I hate that I gave them so much of my money for the last year. I feel absolutely robbed. Bunch of little kids running around thinning they’re pro bodybuilders, taking their shirts off, setting up tripods to bench press 135 pounds. It’s disgusting. I’ve been to many gyms and this is the worst one by far.
