This is an incredible local treasure but I stress the word local - because it should be treated with care for just that reason. The park has a playground, picnic tables, gazebo, large grassy field, various buildings dedicated to senior meals and local community activities. It also holds a spring that is one of the headwaters of the Sacramento River. For whatever reason you come here, please respect the fact this a community treasure created and maintained by the local community. Please don't leave trash, destroy native habitat such as the native plants growing around the spring, or make this an unsafe area for family by doing drugs or smoking cigarettes. This is a great place to enjoy time alone or with family and friends. There is parking and a bathroom. Again, respect this wonderful community resource. Don't leave trash. Respect the energy, work, and funding it takes to maintain such a wonderful place where people can relax, recharge, connect, and play together. Playground: Nice playground fir kids. See photos for details.
Fantastic is only the beginning of this gem. Along with picnic tables, bar-b-ques, a playground & forested trails near the creek are the Headwaters of the Sacramento River. These blessed waters taste as if from Heaven. Many come & sing to the waters also offering flowers & spices to honor them. Walk softly, have a taste & cool your feet in the Sacred Headwaters & take a nap or have a meal in this beautiful park.
This is a beautiful well kept up park and easy hiking trails for anyoneto enjoy. The spring water is amazing and you could drink it as well. Highly recommended. Playground: Nice clean playground with swings. Restrooms: Clean restrooms Dog-friendliness: Pet friendly with leash or without. Picnic area: Nice clean picnic tables and benches throughout the park.
The park is beautiful with play structure for kids. You can enjoy the headwaters fall and taste the water but on Gour own risk. Most people says that you can use the water since it comes from the top and is a filtered water however city put the notice board that it is not tested. You may see some hippies and the group of people enjoying the barbecue or else. This season was not crowded. Recommendation: keep an eye around and stay there only if you feel safe.
Mount Shasta City Park houses the Headwaters Spring that funnel into the start of the Sacramento River. It's a heady experience seeing that much water come from the base of the mountain. It's very clean and very crisp, but you drink at your own risk. There are vendors selling their wares at benches and areas around the spring - mainly crystals, incense. The water is cold and there aren't a lot of places to sit at the start of the springs - benches and bridges are further downstream. The park was very clean. There is no overnight parking/ camping. Playground: A couple of play areas for kids; horsheshoe backboard set up Dog-friendliness: Dogs must be on leash Picnic area: Tables and benches scattered throughout - some in the sun, some in the shade
Very clean place, lots of space to run around and play for kids, or picnic for families. A lot of hippies were there so be prepared to see some weird things, but overall friendly people visiting and beautiful place. Good stop off if you’re on a road trip with kids as there are multiple playgrounds. There’s also a place to fill up water for campers at the headwaters.
9-17-21 Our tour took us to Mt. Shasta City Park home of the headwaters of the Sacramento River amazing to see so much water in a never ending cascade of movement. I brought a jug so I could take some with me and boy is it cold. We hiked the area and discovered a tree or should I say two different trees that have grown TOGETHER . Check out the photos it's true. Nice hiking trails not sure about bathrooms. Blessings, John
If your looking for spiritual incounter this is the perfect place
Best place to visit. Sacred waters. Bring jugs, camera, and picnic. Kid friendly. Great tree canapy. Creek. Head waters of sacramento river. Must visit, sit, eat and meditate. Dog friendly. Bring lease.
Fun park to get out and let kids run around. If you are up for a short hike you can take the short hike to the head of the Sacramento River. Playground is small but they have a old fashioned jungle gym dome still which is awesome.
