Showed up just before close but the lady curating the museum was very nice and allowed us in past closing. She really helped us learn and absorb the history of kirkland lakes including showing us what was just behind the property. She also sold me on a book celebrating 100 years of kirklands lakes by local residents and I couldn't stop reading it. The hockey and union history was eye-opening. Definitely recommend.
Really enjoyed our visit, great items on display. Sir harry Oakes life is both fascinating and tragic. The chateau is a very interesting building. Would reccomend a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Would have loved to go in. We asked if we could bring the dog and the rather harsh “No” prevented us from going in. If the person could have at least engaged in some kind of friendly manner it might have been OK to leave the dog in the car. It’s all about how you address a potential visitor. Really too bad
What a fantastic place. I've been visiting annually since 2008. Many changes are made that break my heart ie. main floor exhibits changing or being closed, but what a remarkable place to get a wealth of information about the area as well as its forever evolving economy. I've brought many families and family members of all ages, and the children have enjoyed themselves. Even just once, the château is a must-see.
Very much worth a visit when you are in the area. There's lots to learn and enjoy. I was delighted by "Nancy's room" and the travelling exhibit on tattoos was a wonderful discovery. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Author Bill Glover had a book reception this afternoon. His book "Kirkland Lake Remembers" is a good history of the young men who went to war, some returning, some not.
