HISTORY: Originally founded in 1912 as the "Tough-Oakes Mine" after the Tough Brothers and Harry Oakes, it was the first operational mine on Kirkland Lake's "Mile of Gold". It would later become the Tough-Oakes-Burnside Mine, or "Toburn".
The TOA is dedicated to the preservation of the historic Toburn Mine Site as a community parkland and as a monument to Kirkland Lake’s mining history.
