Their permanent collection is extensive and interesting with an emphasis on New York State history and artists. Besides paintings and sculptures, they have rooms furnished with ornate furniture, rugs, wallpaper and decorations from over 100 years ago. They're found in a section of the museum referred to as "The Mansion". They keep things interesting by organizing frequent special exhibits which include loaned works of art as well as drawing from their own collection. The gift shop is worth a look.
I really enjoyed the building space. The ceiling brings in natural light. They have a connected building that has a bakery. There is parking in the rear and on the street. We went to go check out the Tiffany exhibit. It was really cool.
I wouldn't visit Utica for the Munson, but as a current resident I highly respect that a little city has such a museum.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
My wife and I visited this museum while in Utica. Beautiful facility and well kept grounds. We enjoyed the portraits and seeing the campus.
The artists this year are so talented! I got to see the steam roller and they even have a kids tent with things to do.
Johnson’s building is awkward for art display, but memorable. Visit for the Thomas Cole ‘Voyage of Life’ series and a small, but exceptional, selection of early and mid-20th century paintings.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Always enjoy going to Munson! Has been a part of my life since childhood. There are many exhibits offered for everyone.
I enjoyed seeing the building I have never seen across from the library before, it was so cool. I really liked the exhibits, my favorite one was the modernism exhibit because of the stained glass objects. My grandparents favorites were the, um, Norman Rockwell exhibit, it had some funny images like the marriage counselor one, remind me of my grandparents lol. I thought the people were really nice there and the shop was cool. I hope I can work there I could, but i'm not old enough, thanks. 6/30/2022
How fortunate we are to have this gem in our community!!! Although to me, it will ALWAYS be the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute
