Nearly half of the world's human population lives within a coastal zone with three-fourths of the world's mega cities located by the sea. Fish supply the greatest percentage of the world's protein consumed by humans. And for all of humankind, the oceans regulate our weather, bring us fresh water, produce one-half of the world's oxygen and absorb nearly one-third of our carbon dioxide emissions. The oceans directly affect each of us.
