There cannot be a more delightful, more enthusiastic welcomer in Venice’s rich museum world than Jovanna. As you buy your inexpensive ticket 3 euros, ask her to tell you her favorite exhibits … you’ll be glad you did.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

The church San Maurizio now houses the Museo della Musica, museum of baroque instruments, composers, and music of Venice. The story of the golden age of making string instruments in 18th century Venice and its studios or “schools” of Italian making of musical instruments, the differences in design and construction, the way they were made and the evolution of musical style. With this beautiful building, Venice has been given a valuable space in an interesting place to show off its artistic musical splendor. This church of San Maurizio was built in a Neoclassical-style, and Family Candian known as Sanudo is responsible for the construction of the church of San Maurizio and Lazzaro. Deconsecrated church is located in the campo San Maurizio in the sestiere of San Marco. Her history is as interesting as everything in Venice. In the middle of the 15th century, the ancient bell tower was demolished to allow the construction of the grand Palazzo Bellavite, whose façade was painted as a fresco by Paolo Veronese. Dionisio Bellavite, a wealthy merchant, actually received a concession for the area and permission to remove the bell tower in exchange for paying an annual tax in favor of the church of San Maurizio, a tax that Bellavite continued to pay until 1564. In 1806 the church was partly demolished and then rebuilt according to the design of Antonio Dieda and the architect of La Fenice, Gian Antonio Selva. The Museo della Musica is an exhibit dedicated to one of the artistic expressions that has contributed to the greatness of Italian culture, the making of stringed instruments. It features period instruments, and documents, including exhibits on Antonio Vivaldi, but also documents on Amati, Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, and Francesco and Matteo Goffriller. Valuable exhibits are Bass by Niccolò Amati and Bass by Carlo Bergonzi and many more.
Interesting museum but what made this experience a 5/5 was Daniele, the employee in the museum who was kind enough to explain some things to us. You could tell that he is very passionate about the history of music in Italy and he was very excited to show us stuff. He was excellent!! We learnt a lot, thank you Daniele!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Excellent place to see baroque musical instruments. Entrance is free. Church is immaculately maintained. Some instruments were centuries old but extremely well preserved.
Very interesting museum. Cheap entry ticket and cute merchandise. Not too many people, so you could look at the exhibits in peace.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Rude receptionist omg! It was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I was there today with seven of my friends, Oct 9, 2022 around 15:00 to 16:00 earlier today. As we were entering the front door to the museum I was recording us walking-in, and she told me to stop because we’re not allowed to do it until we bought our tickets first. So I apologized sincerely because I didn’t know. It was an honest mistake because there was no sign at the door to let people know it’s not allowed to do that anyway. I then proceed to ask what time they open and close on weekends just to kind of break the awkwardness when she stopped me. And she replied, “well we are open now. You’re inside right? I don’t understand your question” and she told me that with a mean voice tone and a pale face because for some reason, my question got her mad. I was so shocked and it made us feel terrible, but since we know better than her unpleasant attitude and her worst customer service, we just decided to leave even before we started buying tickets. I love music. I adore it and that is why we came here. But this lady who was at the reception around 15:00 to 16:00 today ruined it for me and my friends. WORST experience ever! She acted like the people who raised her, didn’t raise her right.
Collection of musical instruments, audio tour was useful for me. Probably only requires a 30-60 minute visit.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
