Excellent museum. Visited on a Sunday. For the size of the museum it packs in a lot. Very interesting farming exhibits intermingled with lots to do for kids. The day we went 2 beautiful shire horses were visiting. Staff were all very friendly and engaging and there were kids backpacks with activities for my daughter to do while looking round. Lots of dressing up for kids, a tractor to go on, a cow to milk by hand not real one the cafe did really nice food and drinks for our lunch. The Tithe Barn had an art exhibition in it and is a beautiful building. The old farmhouse has modern extensions that are very contemporary and a space for hire that has a lovely sliding glazed wall that opens out onto the courtyard.
This place was so much better than expected. Free parking in a large car park when visiting. Tickets are reasonable and after paying once you can return multiple times for a year. Lots of activities put on especially through the holidays and on weekends. There was a local sculptor in the barn who did rubber stamping and another activity. She was so lovely, really engaging with the children and very chatty and helpful. She complimented both children’s work and made them feel proud of their makes. All other staff were super friendly too. There is an orchard with sheep in and a gated picnic area. A small cafe with outdoor seating - unsure of prices or range as we used picnic area with benches, but it seemed very popular. Really interactive museum with dress up available too. We will definitely be returning.
An awesome museum that is larger than it appears from the road. Spent an enjoyable morning reliving memories of a Somerset childhood. Will be back in the summer just to scrump borrow, on a permanent basis the Morgan Sweet as there's nothing to be beat the taste of these apples. Staff were friendly and helpful. Found an ideal Christmas present in the little gift shop. As for the entry fee £7.50 for a year is not expensive.6/11/21
Went to Waisalling there and it was brilliant. Loved the ceremony of driving out evil spirits! And the dancing after was jolly, energetic and great fun. Jeremy doing the calling was a great guy. Will go back to see the wonderful horse made of scrap metal and the floating shepherd's hut. Definitely recommend
We only called in for a light lunch at the cafe, but the Museum looked great, and if we had more time, we would definitely have visited. The cafe was lovely - friendly and helpful staff and very quick service. There was a good choice of food and drink, reasonably priced, and we enjoyed our lunch in the lovely courtyard with a beautiful view of Glastonbury Tor. A lovely end to a wonderful week in Somerset.
Very friendly welcome to an interesting olde lifestyle museum. Great location.... don't miss the orchard with its apple varieties and shepherds hut.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very detailed and well done presentation of country life - the objects were interesting and the panels easy to read. They had a children's trail as well and crafts. The barn itself is worth the entry fee - just stunning. Give yourself about 2 hours if you like to read everything like me!, or more if you want to stop in the middle for a rest in the cafe. I enjoyed the room which displayed more modern artworks by local artists - it is a good reminder that our history and heritage is still being written today! Very friendly staff as well! Free parking for museum visitors, although it is so close to the High Street you could easily walk if you're already in town.
We were just passing here on out way to the tor, and wandered in for an ice cream with tired teenagers. The staff were friendly, the ice creams were delicious, the teenagers revived, and enjoyed exploring the museum, which was interesting and we all impressed with the beautiful horse sculpture made out of old bits of farm metal, and the beautiful tythe barn. There was some stalls just packing up when we got there, I will definitely visit and spend more time there next time.I visit.
Well worth a visit, welcoming and friendly staff, a well laid out and engaging experience. Beautiful medieval barn. Nice outside area for cake or lunch at the cafe with view of the Tor. I enjoyed the galleries where it shows all the historical trades and ways people lived - easy to read, not too wordy, engagingly done. Lots of implements and artefacts that may stir older people's memories. Loved the old photos very easy to see and very interesting to gaze at. Also great use of audio. Just a nice, welcoming space to be in. Good value.
It deserves to be better known. Not large, but a reasonable size. You can comfortably do the museum in an hour or linger in the shade for as long as you like. A good introduction to rural life, some very good audio features. We really liked the cafe. Only a small menu but what we had was good. Good size well done jacket potatoes and leak and Stilton soup. Modern, clean toilets
