In the fall of 1974, Dr. Robert A. Warren became the first elected African- American Mayor for the City of Muskegon Heights. Under his leadership in 1982, Dr. Warren formed and held the first Muskegon Heights Festival in the Park in Rowan Park, which is located in the central business district.
The festival was formed to promote city pride, spotlight area business, and encourage community involvement.
Although things have changed in our downtown business district, we have never failed to continue the tradition Dr. Warren started. In fact we have expanded our scope to include a carnival for the children and Blues and R&B concerts. I pray that every year we will continue to celebrate the Annual Muskegon Heights Festival in the Park, because this festival serves as a tradition of legacy that demonstrates our love for the community and our cultural heritage.
Join us as we celebrate our community!
