So many lovely spots to stop and explore on this whole trip. Plenty of beaches, hiking trails, scenive view points. Lots of wildlife. One of my favorite national parks for the variety of things to see. The greenery is just beautiful. Never got tired of exploring. Not super crowded like the more popular national parks like yellowstone. Was nice to have our own pace to see things. Locals are friendly. Rain, sun, cloudy, foggy, snowy. Just beautiful in all the seasons we have seen there! If you want something different, definatley the route to go. You never know what you will find! Plenty of camping options. Restrooms: Sporadic throughout Dog-friendliness: Yes
Amazing national park with so much diversity in landscapes! We were able to climb to the top of mountain ridges, see the sunset over the beach/ocean and wander through the humid jungle/forest landscape. Highly recommend: Hurricane Ridge Trail. Note: if you're going during the weekdays, they have the road to the trailhead closed off to traffic it's open on weekends though so we had to hike an additional 1.5 mile each way from the visitor center parking lot to the trailhead. This made the hike that's usually 3 miles, a 6 mile roundtrip hike. It's quite a steep hike but the views are worth it! Also recommend Rialto Beach and just hanging on the beach around sunset! Beautiful beach for dogs, kids, skipping rocks, reading a book etc. Not so recommend: we weren't super blown away by Marymere Falls, Lake Crescent or Hoh Rainforest. They were definitely beautiful but paled in comparison to the other sights Olympic had to offer. If you only had time for one, I would recommend the Hoh Rainforest.
Absolutely gorgeous, stunning and breathtaking all around. We had clear skies and a beautiful hike on hurricane ridge. The huge array of biomes available at Olympic national park is pretty wild. At times it almost felt like totally different park due to the diversity. 100% worth a visit but if you really wanna see the park plan for a couple days minimum.
Another National Park down. It was incredible but the smoke from all the fires was a big damper back in mid August. Will definitely be back to view more & head to the Cascades.
A classic, came here early in the morning. Did 8 miles of hiking and left as a different person. Take the sights in and breathe the freshest air in the states. Park rangers were super cool and helped me out with parking. Definitely hit this place up early before the trails crowd.
Wonderful views and dramatic changes between beaches and mountains. The elk were polite and the bears accommodating. The fishing had some biting comments and the rangers were full of......knowledge. Plan carefully but if a park is full go to the beach don't get discouraged, as you there is allways room at the beach. Restrooms: Permanent brick and mortar outhouses. They are stinky but safe.
Blue lake, green forest, rushing rivers and crashing waterfalls. It’s truly a unique place that offers a lot. The abundance of trails to take into the forest. The mile long beaches you can walk and hear the waves. There’s so much to see and do here. Explore it and you won’t regret it.
A Park Unlike Any Other The northeast coast has to be one of the most stunning and beautiful places in this country. The beaches and forest are just jaw-dropping. The park is made of a bunch of entry points into the park with some being more popular than others. Hurricane Ridge and Hoh Rainforest are the top most visited. We either went in before 6am or after 4pm with no issue on crowds. The 101 is not much of a scenic drive until you hit the coast. Before going anywhere check their website. The park has been battered with weather and fires causing sections of the park to be closed for days at a time. Playground: The whole park is a playground as long as you respect the park rules. Restrooms: They mostly have PIT toilet so come prepared. Dog-friendliness: Most of the park is dog friendly except for certain hikes. The park has a ton of bears and couguars, dogs make a great snack. Picnic area: The park has a ton of spots with picnic tables. Ask a Ranger for a map.
I think overall a hit-or-miss experience. Most of the trails are middling, really just a ton of hikes in a forest with some waterfalls on display. However, there are some places and hikes that are simply breathtaking though difficult, like Mount Olympus and Mount Storm King one of my favorite hikes in the world. A bit difficult to access and to stay in, but overall a good one-time experience to try out.
Beautiful park. We explored ruby beach and beach 4. Both offered beautiful scenic views and places to explore. Beach 4 has tide pools and we found awesome creatures. We were unable to visit the hall of mosses due to the 2 hour wait time. Even then, Olympic did not disappoint.
