UMass Boston's field station for education, research, and community service opportunities, in conjunction with the Nantucket Conservation Foundation.
The Nantucket Field Station is a satellite campus of the University of Massachusetts at Boston. It sits on 107 acres owned by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation and is managed by the University of Massachusetts at Boston. The estuary, harbor, streams, kettle pond, meadow and heath are all to be admired and studied.
The public is welcomed to walk the trails or the beach of the grounds daily from 9am to 7pm, unless otherwise posted. Groups of 12 or more are asked to call or email in advance to check-in with the station director prior to visiting.
Immersive accredited courses are open to students from any institution to take. A range of research by scientists and scholars from many institutions and agencies is supported at the Nantucket Field Station.
The Station's mission is to provide education, research, and community service opportunities in conjunction with faculty members and students of the University of Massachusetts Boston, the University of Massachusetts system, the people of Nantucket, and other educational and research organizations both on and off Nantucket. In 2004, the Nantucket Conservation Foundation signed a purchase agreement with the Trustees of the University to purchase the field station, protecting the land and allowing UMass Boston to operate the facility in perpetuity.
