I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience with National Car Rental, and I am compelled to share my grievances. From the moment I stepped into the vehicle, it became apparent that the company's claims and policies regarding smoking were not upheld. Despite the prominent "no smoking" sticker in the car and the company's warning of charging a fee for smoking, the vehicle emitted a strong smell of smoke as soon as I turned on the heating system. This was not only unpleasant but also contradicted the company's supposed commitment to a smoke-free environment. Furthermore, my dissatisfaction continued upon my arrival at Richmond Airport, where I discovered that the class of car I had requested was unavailable. This resulted in an inconvenient wait while the vehicle was being serviced. As a customer, I expected to receive the car I reserved without any unnecessary delays or inconveniences. To add to my frustration, the condition of the vehicle upon receipt was subpar. The windows were visibly spotted, which severely limited visibility. Additionally, I discovered items left behind, presumably by the previous renter or even a National staff member. This oversight suggests a lack of attention to detail and cleanliness by the company, which is completely unacceptable. The most distressing aspect of this experience was the persistent smell of smoke that permeated the car whenever I operated the heating and air unit. This made the journey extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable, tarnishing the entire rental experience. Overall, my encounter with National Car Rental was highly unsatisfactory. The failure to provide a smoke-free environment, the unavailability of the requested car class, the poor condition of the vehicle, and the lingering smell of smoke all contribute to an experience that falls far below acceptable standards. I strongly urge National Car Rental to address these issues promptly and take the necessary measures to improve their services. As a customer, I expected a comfortable and enjoyable rental experience, which unfortunately was not met.
Renting a car through National was a great experience! The process from beginning to end was smooth and they even upgraded my vehicle for free. I have nothing negative to say and I highly recommend National to anyone looking to rent a car!
Reviewing my most recent trip to the Denver Airport National rental. My family was headed on a vacation in the mountains and during our rental checkout we were greeted by the loveliest employee, her name was Kim. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. It was such a nice start to our trip after leaving the airport. Traveling can be stressful but this was stress free and really wonderful.
I usually always use National Rental when I’m flying out of state and once again, the experience was top notch! The staff are always friendly at pickup and drop off, and the process is super easy. The emerald club system makes this process even easier. Just select your car and go. I will definitely continue to use National going forward!
We decided to drive an hour and a half to Richmond for a car on the premise that National offers a choice of cars. When we got there the Aisle didn’t have anything in our reserved category. We had to wait 20 minutes before someone showed up at the counter and started to help someone who arrived after us. We were waved towards a Nissan and a Chevy from Enterprise we reserved a luxury SUV through National. They finally said they had one in our category but it had to be brought up. It was a Range Rover Defender which was nice but too small. We ended up with a Nissan Armada through Enterprise which we could have gotten at home, without the need to drive to Richmond. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience.
I wish I could give a higher review to this location, but I left behind a pair of sunglasses in my vehicle. Unfortunately when I returned to the National team at the airport, they said "we do not deal with returns" and handed me a business cards to their Lost and Found service, which is managed through a 3rd party. I had submitted a report earlier that day, but its been over 7 days and I still have not had a response from the company that manages this service. As a customer that leaves something important behind, I now have no trust that I will hear back quickly [even if my item is not found]. Truly unfortunate that you cannot work with a location to identify a lost item, but have to work with a different group who you may never hear from..

Rented a luxury car last minute then lost my reservation due to flight being delayed 2-3 hours. Carl was able to step in and help me secure a rental close to luxury. Carl apologized and adjusted things to accommodate me and ensure I was still pleased with the service. Thanks again Carl!
Frankly the service and staff at Richmond’s airport is terrible. Consistently I have been there and the staff is rude especially that young man with the dreads who sits at the gate before you exit after picking up your car. Twice I have encountered him and twice his attitude was as if he doesn’t care. By the way I have to agree with him, staying with national and becoming an executive elite customer seems to mean nothing, if you can’t better service. I am looking for alternatives, I refuse to spend my money and being rude to.
Poor integrity employees. Left item - headphones - in car that couldn't immediately be rented as a spare tire was on the car. I traded the car out and immediately drove to ORF airport for drop off car just picked up about 3 hours ago at Richmond airport. Immediately submitted L&F claim as the customer care in Norfolk did not want to call the Richmond location for me . There was no one at the counter, and they refused to call. Needless to say, I received notification that my article could not be located. Received notification a week later only after I contacted customer service via phone and filed a complaint. They should have known that a customer would be following up. Now, I am very clear that National Richmond airport employees will NOT return your lost item - Emerald club member or not. Internal theft is a real thing at the Richmond Airport location. Will be utilizing other rental car options.
