The National CG Museum Association, Inc. - a 501©3 Non-Profit Charitable Organization was formed in 2001 to raise funds and apply for and administer federal and state grants for the sole purpose of acquiring land, designing, constructing, developing exhibits and turning over to the US Coast Guard a national museum in the City of New London, Connecticut.
The Certificate of Incorporation for the NATIONAL COAST GUARD MUSEUM ASSOCIATION, INC. dated November 21, 2001 states the following:
Section 2. The nature of the activities to be conducted or the purposes to be promoted or carried out by the Corporation shall be exclusively charitable, educational, and/or scientific within the meaning of section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as the same may be amended from time to time, or of any corresponding provision of any future United States Internal Revenue Law (the “Code”), and shall include the following:
(a) To establish, develop, foster, and perpetuate the National Coast Guard Museum which will serve to promote historical knowledge of the Coast Guard and its predecessor services among the present and past member of the service and among the general public, and to promote an awareness, recognition and pride the their role in the maritime heritage of the United States; and
(b) To function as a charitable association in the development, design, construction, and maintenance of the facilities and inventory of the National Coast Guard Museum; and
(c) To raise and hold funds for the establishment and operation of the National Coast Guard Museum; and
(d) To work in conjunction with the Coast Guard, other departments of the federal government, the State of Connecticut, and the City of New London to carry out this venture; and
(e) To engage in any lawful act or activity related to these purposes for which a corporation may be organized under the Revised Nonstock Corporation Act of the State of Connecticut in furtherance of the foregoing.
