Makers of the finest candies since 1914!
Nelson's Candies, located in Wilton, N.H. is owned and operated by Douglas Nelson; 3rd generation candy maker. Doug Nelson learned the trade from his father and grandfather growing up in Lowell, Mass. and spending his summers as a young man on the Hampton Beach Boardwalk where his Grandmother operated a booming candy store.
His Main Street location has been a landmark in Wilton for 20 years now and is widely known throughout New England as one of the most spectacular places to visit during the holidays when traditional Hand Pulled Christmas Canes hang from the ceiling and chocolate Santas line the shelves. Easter brings bunnies and coconut creme eggs along with beautiful soft centered chocolates.
Doug's Peanut Brittle, Fudge and Butter Crunch recipes haven't changed since they were handed down to him by his family years ago.
Along with his passion for Candy Making, Doug also has a passion for music and that can be seen in his room along side the candy store which has been dubbed 'LOCAL'S CAFE'. Local's cafe has been a part of the store for almost 15 years where local talent has come to participate in open mic's as well as concerts of all sorts including Folk, Rock, Country and of course The Blues.
The venue is a small intimate space with a casual and comfortable feel. Bench seating along the walls and tables through the room provide seating for everyone and there is not a bad spot in the house. Ticket prices for concerts generally range from $10 to $40.
In recent years Local's Cafe has seen the talents of Luther Guitar Jr. Johnson and the Chicago Blues Trio, The one and only- Bobby Radcliff, The Skip Philbrick Blues Band, Oits and the Elevators, Professor Harp, Willie J. Laws and the Willie J. Laws Band, Jonah Tolchin, Will Kindler and many many more! The opening band for concerts at Local's is 'The House Band- Sweet Tooth' (Doug Nelson, Mark Nelson,Winn Wright, Dick Moore, Bongo Bob & Elizabeth)
Local's Cafe is a BYOB venue (Bring Your Own Booze/Beer) but we remind everyone to drink responsibly. If you have any concerns about driving just let us know and we'll get you a taxi. Better safe than sorry.
