I’ve been a part of this gym since it opened. For four years, Nerdstrong has meant family. We’re all in this together, and we’ll laugh, cry, challenge, and cheer each other along as we learn how to take care of ourselves for the better. From day one the coaches throughout the years have expanded my horizons when it comes to fitness. I’ve changed my mindset for the better, and while I have my ups and downs this gym and the community has supported me the whole way. Yay, fitness.
Dropped in during a business trip, and had a great workout with some great people. This gym does it right, with a welcoming environment and skilled trainers who understand functional movement, programming, and scaling, so that anyone - at any level of fitness - can enjoy great training in an inclusive atmosphere. I will definitely be back during my next visit to LA.
I came to Nerdstrong looking for a gym. I found a gym, but I also found a community of amazing coaches and members who challenge me to be stronger, faster, and smarter. We play games, go on hikes, and chat about sci fi and fantasy. We help each other crush PRs and run miles. It's one of my favorite places on the planet.
There are many ways to be a great gym, and Nerdstrong unquestionably is. It's rarer for it also to be such a powerful source of community. Since joining Nerdstrong, the people here have become the mainstay of my social life. There are board game nights and other events at the gym, but just as often there’s an ad hoc gathering of folks coming together to see the latest Marvel movie or simply grab a butterbeer together after work. I’ve found two different DnD groups and a weekly movie buddy already! If you’re worried you’re “not nerdy enough,” there’s no nerd litmus test: some references may go over my head, but I never feel lesser for it, and there’s always someone who will love the things you love, from Hamilton which we blast while benching, to Battlestar Galactica, to the finer points of Cyclops’ characterization in late 2000s comics. I also want to note that, for women who are concerned at the prospect creepy nerds or creepy gym dudes, that this is one of the few environments where I have not ONCE encountered someone who behaved inappropriately. Not once! And our sense of community extends to the workouts themselves, where everyone is supportive and encouraging, cheering you on whether you’re putting that fourth plate on the bar for deadlifts, or finally getting that first strict push-up. But for competitors and athletes, Nerdstrong is an excellent gym qua gym too. The coaches push you, but push *smart:* no one leaves feeling unchallenged like they had a lot left in the tank, but no one feels like they have something to prove and risk injury either. Injury just means time not training and gaining! “Listen to your body” is the phrase I hear over and over again at Nerdstrong, and it’s refreshing to work with smart, knowledgable coaches, nerds themselves who don’t think that nerdiness is any reason to use kid gloves. THIS is how to address gym intimidation: by showing people of all backgrounds that they can go hard, excel, and meet their goals.
My crew and I came up for a visit and had a great time. Fun workout, great camaraderie and a fun community feel. If they were closer to us, I'm sure we'd frequent this place. Thank you so much to Andrew and Corrine.
Been going for close to 2 years now and it's a legitimate reason why I decided not to move out of LA. The owner and manager, Andrew and Patty, are incredible people who actually care and want to help you.
A year ago I left the gym because I was not happy with their service and the staff was not nice so I decided to move to another place, I looked for a lot of recommendations and I asked a lot of friends and after a period that I did not practice I decided to go to Nerdstrong Gym and I am satisfied with this decision.
Completely unaffordable. Made for the rich white nerd. Good equipment. Cool people.
Great crossfit-style gym with community of pop culture geeks.
Greta work outs couch David rocks!
