The Town of New Hartford Parks and Rec. Department maintains facilities and implements programs to provide you with year round recreational opportunties.
The department operates and maintains four parks, recreation center, and several playgrounds. Our aim is to provide the best recreational services through an innovating balance of user fees, grants, and county and state aid funding
Playground Programs
Games , Arts & Crafts, Field Trips and more!
Playground programs were restructured in 2006 to incorporate pre-registration, daily sign in and out policies and many other new safety and operational procedures to keep our children safe and active. Programs are held during the summer at Hughes and Myles Elementary Schools for Grade K-3, and at the New Hartford Recreation Center and Perry Jr. High School for grades 4-6.
Swim Programs
Due to tightening town budgets and changes in community interest over the years the swim program was re-written in 2013. Now focusing on learn to swim classes, two, three-week sessions are offered during the summer with classes split by both age and skill level. Immediately following the instructional classes is a recreation swim session. This new schedule allows for maximum use of the pool while keeping operating costs at a minimum. To even further increase pool use, a partnership was made with the playground program which brings buses filled with kids from the various playgrounds in during the recreation swim offered after the instructional classes.
